Role Responsibilities:


The Continuity and Assurance Services team, within the Ministry of Technology & Innovation ensures practices are utilized to support the effective service delivery and continuity of technology services for the Government of Alberta (GoA).

Included within these practices are major incident and problem management.


Reporting to the Team Lead of Major Incident and Problem Management (MIPM), this position is responsible and accountable for coordination of the timely restoration and communication of major IT service disruptions.

These disruptions significantly impact to the Government of Alberta and may occur 7x24. Therefore, participating in the on-call rotation is required.


This position requires a broad range of IT knowledge to support the MIPM processes and facilitate communication between business areas and technical areas.

However, this position does not engage in hands on technical support.


This position plays an integral role within the Continuity and Assurance Services team Branch, by maximizing IT service availability through various software tools, troubleshooting methodologies and communication skills.

Some of the position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Major Incident Triage and Management: Initial triage and validation of a Major Incident based on business impact. Leverage a broad knowledge of IT to engage the appropriate technical support teams. Facilitate technical troubleshooting meetings to enable timely service restoration. Provide timely and concise business updates by translating detailed technical terminology and concepts into written business language. Facilitate stakeholder engagement through timely communications and expectation management. This is accomplished by effective meeting facilitation and business level writing.

Problem Management: Coordinate Problem Management activities by facilitation of root cause analysis meetings consisting of business and technical resources. Creation of Problem Reports that identify root cause and recommended remediation.

General Team Responsibilities: Lead or participate on projects as required. Regular updating of team documentation as directed. Participation in 7x24 on call rotation.


To be successful in this position you will demonstrate:

  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills, as this role is required to bring multiple teams together as part of the troubleshooting process.
  • A high level of analytical thinking, facilitation, and troubleshooting skills to successfully coordinate the recovery of IT services and facilitate root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal direction.
  • Good judgement and superior organization and decisionmaking skills.

Qualifications:


Requirements:


  • University graduation in a related field such as Computer Sciences, Information Technology.
  • 2 years of related experience required.

Equivalencies:

Equivalencies will be considered:

  • A related twoyear diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and four years related experience; or
  • A related oneyear certificate from a recognized postsecondary institution and five years related experience.

Assets:


  • Experience in project participation, risk management and monitoring skills to coordinate and execute for successful outcomes, while ensuring adherence to established governance and reporting mechanisms.
  • Experience in a technical discipline (networking/desktop/database...) and a broad understanding of technical interdependencies.
  • Knowledge of ITIL
  • Experience in group facilitation of individuals with diverse technical understanding.
  • Experience in business level communication, communicating technical concepts to executive and business audience.
