Salary:Starting at $46,396/year, increasing to $49,676/year after successful completion of the
probationary period.

Hours:35 hours per week; Tuesday through Saturday work week.
Tuesday & Thursday 12:00-7:30pm, Wednesday & Saturday 9:30am-5:00pm, Friday 10:30am-6:00pm


Nature and Scope:

The Team Leader-Aquatics will assist in supervising and participate in lifeguarding and instruction of
aquatic programming, ensuring progressive swimming instruction in the Y aquatic system. Reporting to
the Program Coordinators-Aquatics and Program Supervisor-Aquatics, the Team Leader-Aquatics will be
responsible for the safe and effective operation of the day-to-day activities on the pool deck, the quality
of aquatic programs and the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatic facility through primarily direct
delivery responsibilities.

This permanent full-time position is entitled to a YMCA-YWCA individual membership; 15 days vacation;

Responsibilities:


  • Assist the Program Coordinators-Aquatics and Program Supervisor-Aquatics with the training,
coaching, and recognition of volunteers and staff.

  • On deck lifeguarding ensuring safety of pool users by constantly scanning lifeguard zones
  • Leadership of Advanced Aquatics programming through direct delivery of Lifesaving,
Lifeguarding and Instructing courses.

  • Monitor commitment to service excellence by role modelling and maintaining YMCA SAM 2.1
standards.

  • Facilitate progressive swimming lessons to all ages and abilities in keeping with the Y's values

  • Contribute as a member of the Branch Leadership Team in the operation of the Centre
  • Serve as the Building Supervisor/Duty Manager as required**
  • Provides leadership to the Strong Kids Campaign as requested**
  • Adhere to YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 2 years' relevant experience
  • Lifeguard and swim lesson instruction experience
  • Postsecondary education in a related field is preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills; a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and a registration software
is preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience teaching aquatic fitness is an asset
  • The following current certifications:
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • LS National Lifeguard (NL) pool option (Waterpark option is an asset)
  • LS Airway Management and Oxygen Administration (AMOA)
  • YMCA Swim Instructor award (or LS Swim for Life)
  • LS Lifesaving Instructor award
  • YMCA or BCRPA Aquatic Fitness an asset
  • National Lifeguard Instructor (or a willingness to obtain)


  • YMCA Trainer

  • Aquatics will be required (training provided)
  • S.E.E. and A.S.T. will be required (training provided)
  • A clear Police/RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required
  • The YMCA/YWCA has implemented a mandatory COVID19 vaccination policy requiring all staff
and volunteers to be fully vaccinated.
