- Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with Aecon's Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
- Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
- Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
- Track and report project quality control, resource requirements and customer or labour relations.
- Ensure Superintendent compliance with all assignments, project policies and procedures.
- Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Subcontractors, Foreman and crews perform to meet production goals.
- Assist the Foreman to translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
- Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
- Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
- Work with the Project Manager and Project Director to identify equipment and labour resource requirements and to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
- Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress.
- Document reporting of and maintaining in good repair all company owned and rented tools, equipment and assets.
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
- Minimum 6-8 years of experience in a superintendent position in the heavy civil construction industry.
- Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary operations team including foremen, project coordinators, field engineers and unionized craft employees.
- Experience managing work in a self-performing work environment.
- Thorough knowledge of the applicable OH&S legislation.
- Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Proficient Computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Must Maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.
