Identifying resources, risks and opportunities from a corporate perspective for projects focused on climate adaptation, resilience and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reductions;
Supporting CVRD climate action initiatives in relation to achieving commitment of carbon neutrality and GHG reduction targets;
Updating, monitoring and completing the Corporate Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP) and the annual corporate energy emissions inventory;
Collaborating with internal staff from a variety of departments to develop and implement work plans related to CEEP initiatives;
Coordinating and investigating opportunities in conjunction with CVRD facilities and infrastructure of energy conservation, district energy, waste heat recovery, fuel switching and renewable energy;
Developing staff reports and other correspondence to further the support of corporate climate action initiatives and guidance to staff and elected officials;
Assisting with projects related to CVRD infrastructure and facilities including implementing retrofits and new construction for energy and emissions reductions;
Supporting ongoing commissioning efforts, as well as de-carbonization plans and projects at CVRD facilities, with the goal of energy and emissions reductions;
Facilitating an increased awareness across the organization of climate impacts and actions.

A strong communicator with excellent facilitation and leadership skills;
A confident, professional speaker with the ability to make presentations of complex material in understandable terms;
A relationship builder able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including colleagues, elected officials, and the public;

Educated in an applicable undergraduate degree of four years or equivalent in environmental studies with a focus on sustainability, climate change, or other related field from an accredited university with over two up to three years of directly related experience in climate action/adaptation and energy/emissions reductions.

OR educated in an applicable diploma of over two and up to three years, or equivalent in environmental studies with a focus on sustainability, climate change, or related field from an accredited institute of technology with over four up to five years of directly related experience in climate action/adaptation and energy/emissions reductions.

(An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered);
Certificate in energy management, sustainable or green building systems, is preferred;
Certification or training in local government / public administration, is preferred;
Current knowledge of provincial, regional and corporate plans, programs, policies and practices related to climate action and adaptation including, the Local Government Climate Action Program, CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy, Climate Action Charter, Comox Valley Regional Growth Strategy, CVRD Corporate Energy and Emissions Plan;
Knowledgeable in project management methodologies and able to provide day-to-day oversight of external consultants/contractors/stakeholders and execute projects;
Strategic, analytical and creative when it comes to problem solving;
Self-motivated, organized and able to balance multiple priorities;
Resourceful with strong research and writing skills;

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with strong skills in Adobe Acrobat, Explorer, SharePoint, IMAP and using programs for energy and emissions tracking.

This is a CUPE Local 556 position with a current wage rate of $38.25 per hour.
