About the role


The incumbent will operate, inspect, clean, and adjust the Ash Handling conveying and Residue, Handling Equipment, Refuse Cranes, Skid Steers, Forklifts, Residue Front End Loaders, Street Sweeper, and Genie Aerial Manlift.

Maintain operating logs, inspection, and conduct preventative maintenance of process equipment under their control. Assist the Auxiliary Operator as required. Inspect and maintain the Facilities outside appearance. Operate the Plant Fire Water pumping system as directed.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


Ability to perform all process facility functions, to monitor, maintains and controls the process facility and the adjoining grounds to provide for a safe and e ficient continuous flow of waste through the facility.


  • Operate all heavy equipment including Front End Loaders, skid loaders, Refuse Cranes & Genie Aerial Manlift.
  • Operate and maintain Ash Handling and Residue Handling Equipment. Comply with all Health and Safety Policies, Procedures, Practices, and Regulations.
  • Basic knowledge to monitor and control the operation of the process facility from the control room to maintain peak efficiency.
  • Basic knowledge to monitor, control and issue instructions/advice to other individuals in the safe efficient performance of their assigned tasks as necessary to coordinate and regulate the processing of solid waste, and ash residue,
maintaining maximum production efficiencies, giving due consideration to safety and the environment.

  • Basic knowledge to monitor process equipment using TV monitors, meters, gauges and other instruments and by listening to and sensing equipment noise or vibration variations.
  • Communicate production problems and equipment repair needs to appropriate supervisors.
  • Basic knowledge to perform start ups and shutdowns and synchronization of process equipment as situations dictate.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with the operation of process equipment and diagnosis of the cause for equipment malfunctions during breakdowns.
  • Operate the Street Sweeper to maintain plant roadways in a clean manner and to control dust.
  • Assist the Auxiliary Operator in the operation of the EfW process equipment.
  • Provide relief for the Equipment Operator in the Tipping Operations.
  • Perform, assist, and may coordinate work in the repair and modifications of process, equipment and facilities in coordination with appropriate personnel.
  • Inspect machinery, tools, equipment, and review work orders, drawings and specifications in coordination with appropriate personnel.
  • Have complete knowledge of the equipment lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Have working knowledge of the fire protection system, location of all the Fire pumps, hose reels, extinguishers, deluge valves and zones. Be capable of resetting fire protection zone trip.
  • Direct and inspect collection vehicles and loads of waste, and where required, manually separate and load waste.
  • Patrol work areas and outside grounds as directed to identify and correct any unusual operating conditions.
  • Ensure the Facilities appearance is kept at an exemplary condition.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, lubricate equipment, and perform routine repairs and oil changes on equipment and assist mechanics in performing more complex repairs and housekeeping activities as required.
  • Load, unload, transport, and store plant parts and supplies, manually or by operating a Front End Loader, Skid Steer and Fork Lift and Pallet Truck.
  • Maintain the outside grounds of the facility free of waste and litter.
  • Ability to operate equipment as defined above.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervision.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner.

REQUIREMENTS (Education, Skills, Certificate, Licenses, Experience):

  • 4Th Class Operating Engineer Ontario or all exams completed as a minimum
  • Experience in material handling.
  • Knowledge of the principals, practices and methods relate
