PCB Control Board Designer – Review, Refine, and Complete Existing Design

Job description
Project OverviewPolyax is developing a high-performance control board for a power electronics platform.
This project interfaces closely with the electrical team (sensors and hardware) and embedded software team to meet both functional and software requirements.
Frameworks and draft schematics have already been started to outline the core functionality.We are seeking an experienced PCB design engineer to:
- Review what has already been built
- Validate correctness from a hardware and board-design perspective
- Provide guidance and corrections where necessary
- Complete core electrical design work and select/calculate components required to support sensors, processors, and supporting ICs
- Finalize the control board design for production readiness
This will be an hourly contract using Upwork's time tracker.

- What You'll Be Doing
- Review existing schematics and PCB layout
- Identify design improvements, corrections, or risk areas
- Validate design against hardware best practices (signal integrity, grounding strategy, EMI considerations, manufacturability, cost optimization, etc.)
- Collaborate closely with the team who initiated the design
- Work alongside electrical and systems engineers to ensure systemlevel alignment
- Finalize the PCB layout for fabrication
- Prepare fabricationready files and supporting documentation
The foundation exists, but the role will require repeated interaction with the team to ensure all end requirements are properly implemented.
We need an experienced hardware designer to ensure the design is correct, robust, and manufacturable.-
- Collaboration Expectations
- Regular video meetings with the software and systems engineers
- Evening availability in U.S. Central Time (6:00 PM CT or later) is important
- Daily calls are not required, but consistent coordination sessions will be necessary
- Clear communication and the ability to explain design decisions is essential

- Progress Tracking
- Hourly contract using Upwork's tracker
- Work must be logged and clearly documented
- Structured progress updates that can integrate into internal tracking systems are preferred
- Ability to break work into measurable milestones and report status clearly
- Ideal Candidate
- Strong experience in PCB design and layout
- Experience reviewing and improving existing designs
- Background in control boards and embedded systems
- Familiarity with power electronics environments preferred
- Strong understanding of grounding, isolation, EMI mitigation, and signal integrity
- Experience architecting multirail power systems with proper isolation between voltage domains
- Experience implementing protection and isolation strategies to prevent damage across voltage levels
- Comfortable collaborating with software and systems engineers
- Able to complete work within a 4week window
