The Strathcona Community Policing Centre (SCPC) is looking for an entrepreneurial self starter who is passionate about community, working people and who is interested in a unique experience working in our Strathcona offices in the downtown east side of Vancouver.


Location and Hours of work:

The majority of your time will be spent working out of our offices at 872 East Hastings Street, Vancouver. The role may require some work outdoors and at other locations within the Strathcona area of Vancouver.

You will work 20-25 hours per week during our office hours (Tuesday - Saturday).

Your days of work can be negotiated with your supervisor, and may change from week to week if desired by both parties.

Occasional evening work during the week may be required from time to time.

What You Will Do - A Day in the life:

Your main duties will be to manage all aspects of our core programs and special events with support from the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator.


This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Creation, development and implementation of new SCPC programs and initiatives
  • Under guidance of the Executive Director; schedule program work, oversee program operations, coordinate the activities of programs
  • Continuously think of ways to improve all on our programs to increase effectiveness and increase volunteer participation
  • Organising and leading volunteer and community outreach special events
  • Assist with general office management
  • Assist in the development and creation of training manuals, policies, and program guidelines
  • Ensure implementation of SCPC policies and practices across all programs and events.
  • Interacting with and helping walk in and phone clients and connecting them with services
  • Assessing reports and data to help influence program creation


As a small team, we are a very collaborative and we all pitch in wherever needed from time to time.


Some of your secondary responsibilities may include:

  • General office administrative duties as required
  • Assist Executive Director with miscellaneous tasks as required.
  • Assist with Communications to Volunteers
  • Support growth and development for SCPC Volunteers.

Nice to Haves:


  • Fluency in languages other then English.
  • Formal education or equivalent experience in the criminal justice system in Canada and British Columbia.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with Community Policing Centres
  • More advanced IT skills and knowledge is a bonus
  • Knowledge of social services available in Vancouver (housing, addiction, counselling, mental health).
