- Develops, delivers and monitors quality programs that support and promote learning, and the healthy development of children, in alignment with YWCA Hamilton goals and objectives and in compliance with Ministry of Education CCEYA;
- Collaborates with Children's Service Supervisors and Educators to develop and deliver programs, curriculum and routines that supports the healthy development of children, promotes learning, and meet the needs of children enrolled;
- Creates and supports a stimulating and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow;
- Ensures the safety of children enrolled in programs and activities through direct supervision of the children in partnership with educators;
- Supports reflective practices among educators and teams, guides and collaborates with educators to scaffold;
- Supports the development of individualized plans and development goals that meet the needs/interests of the children and monitors their progress;
- Mentors educators to promote an engaging environment;
- Collaborates with external/community partners to support and establish goals for the whole classroom;
- Creates workshops and/or networking events for educators;
- Supports families and children to grow, learn and feel part of a larger community through various activities;
- Assists with the marketing of programs, captures success stories, testimonials and photographs;
- Prepares reports and statistics6 for Children's Services Manager as required;
- Demonstrates and models strong leadership behaviours, supports and coaches program staff;
- Ensures positive, professional communication with parents/families, community partners, outside agencies, coworkers and support staff, an on an ongoing basis;
- Works with limited pieces of child and family confidential data, with duty to report;
- Resolves conflicts or highly sensitive situations on a regular and recurring basis;
- Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
- Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved;
- Implements appropriate program guidelines and procedures/templates for program to ensure consistency and excellence;
- Understands and incorporates emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
- Participate in mandatory organizational and departmental trainings and meetings;
- Responsible for submitting expense, mileage and petty cash reports;
- Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- 5 hours / week;
- Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping;
- Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily yearround; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold.
Qualifications
- Completion of 2 years' college in Early Childhood Education or equivalent;
- Registered through the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE); maintains certification as required by the YWCA and provincial standards;
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a licensed child care setting, with experience coaching, guiding, and mentoring educators and support staff;
- Knowledge of Healthy Child Development training is an asset;
- Able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders in codeveloping & codesigning programs;
- Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
- Valid driver's license and access to a motor vehicle is an asset;
- Must have strong computer literacy, including MS Word and Outlook;
- Must provide a TB test, proof of Tetanus (within 10 years) and proof of MMR immunizations;
