Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager and under the general supervision of the Charge Sonographer, the incumbent is responsible for performing a wide variety of standardized and complex sonography services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology and preparing accurate reports for physician interpretation.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and the initial action to resolve abnormal findings.
- The incumbent will also assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management ensuring a high level of patient care.
- The incumbent may also assist in the education of new staff, students and residents, quality assurance and in research endeavors within the department.
- Diagnostic Imaging provides diagnostic services on campus at the Health Sciences Centre as well as other satellite offices located throughout the city. This position may be assigned at either location.
Experience:
- Previous related experience preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate):
- Graduate of an accredited program in Diagnostic Ultrasound.
Certification/Licensure/Registration:
- Upon hire, must be eligible for registration with Sonography Canada CRGS (Canadian Registered General Sonographer) credential and must become a registered member within three months of hire. The Centre will consider certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with the following specialties: Obstetrical/Gynecological and Abdominal Sonography. Must maintain active status with either or both registries.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the applicable policy.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
- Position requires a high degree of technical expertise and a thorough knowledge of all specialized areas in diagnostic ultrasound in order to perform a wide range of ultrasound procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with various levels of personnel, both internally and externally, and within an interdisciplinary environment.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must have the ability to adapt readily, and respond with initiative, to a changing environment.
- Demonstrated planning, organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workload.
- Must be able to function as an independent, selfdirected professional.
- Demonstrated problem solving and critical analysis.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be in good physical and mental health and be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
- Must demonstrate the use of safe and effective body mechanics while working with clients.
- Must be able to safely transfer large and/or heavy clients who may have limited or no weight bearing capabilities.
- Must be able to position clients, some of whom are in a state of unconsciousness.
- May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
