About the role:

In a complex, matrixed organization, the VP of Finance will influence the company's financial resources to maintain the short and long-term financial health of the organization.

Demonstrating superior relationship management, sound judgment, and exceptional leadership, the VP of Finance will advocate for the needs of the Canadian business unit, influence senior stakeholders with competing interests, and drive financial success for the local organization.

The VP of Finance will be a critical resource for the local business unit and contribute significantly to strategic planning, decision-making, and the representation of the business in interactions with external parties.


What you will do:


  • Build a winning culture, with enthusiastic leadership and the ability to communicate and connect with all levels of Associates, members of the business, and other relevant internal or external groups. Ultimately responsible for the attraction, retention, motivation, and engagement of associates across the organization._
  • Establish, manage, measure and achieve department goals. Accountable for the overall effectiveness and performance of the department including ensuring the department is appropriately staffed and structured to meet business needs.
  • Lead, direct, evaluate and develop staff to ensure efficiency of the department, satisfaction of customers and clients, and to maximize associate performance.
  • Create a high performance culture and lead the team to achieve success in building a trusted Finance team.
  • Provide top executive level strategic leadership in ensuring the company's financial resources to maintain the short and longterm financial health of the business. Provide overall department accountability and leadership._
  • Influence and guide the company's financial resources to maintain the short and longterm financial health of the business.
  • Ensure all financial functions meet the company's business objectives and are conducted in accordance with regulations and accounting principles.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and decisionmaking at the top executive level to develop and implement a financial strategy that aligns with the company's business objectives.
  • Direct the preparation of the company's financial reports, such as profit and loss accounts, balance sheet, management financial reports, and regulatory reports and filings.
  • Evaluate acquisitions, investments, capital expenditure, divestitures, mergers, or the sale of assets to ensure they are financially viable.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with external parties, such as landlords, banks, investment analysts, and other financial institutions.
  • Provide technical advice and knowledge to others within the Finance discipline.
  • Represent the company in interactions with external parties in order to protect the company's interests and reputation.
  • Work closely with the CEO and senior management team on strategic decisions relating to strategic growth, inspiring employees, achieving operational targets and generating results.
  • Partner regionally and globally on projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other business units and teams to address business needs and/or issues.

What it takes:


  • University Degree in a related discipline coupled with a minimum of 15 years' experience in the field of Finance with a minimum of 10 years' Finance experience at a senior level with budget preparation/analysis and complex reporting requirements.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience managing people.
  • Certified Professional Accountant designation.
  • An understanding of the industry, market, client, business development and governmental trends affecting the company's competitiveness. Prior insurance experience is an asset.
  • Ability to think strategically forward in a 35 year time span and be able to develop strategies and plans to meet futurefacing goals.
  • Proven ability to work a variety of different personalities and to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidence at all times and in all situations. Must be able to maintain composure in difficult circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisionmaking without direct authority. Ability to exercise good judgement.
  • Proven results oriented leader with a demonstrated ability to gain the respect and trust of employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment preferred.
  • Strong technical skills in various types of software, such as MS Excel, SAP Accounting.
