We are looking for a Technical Officer, Ionizing Radiation Metrology to support our Metrology Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Ionizing Radiation Standards (IRS) group within the Metrology Research Centre disseminates, maintains, and develops standards for ionizing radiation.

It also conducts research and development related to the measurement of ionizing radiation, and is well known for its work developing and exploiting Monte Carlo calculational techniques for the simulation of electron and photon transport in materials.


Screening Criteria:


Education:

Technical College Diploma in one of the following disciplines:

  • Physical Science;
  • Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering.

Asset:
B.Sc. in Physics or similar field or a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.

An equivalent combination of work experience, trade knowledge and training/education may also be considered.

Experience:


  • Significant experience working in a laboratory environment;
  • Experience with electronic troubleshooting; and
  • Significant experience using standard laboratory equipment.

Assets:


  • Experience in a metrology laboratory;
  • Experience with ionizing radiation;
  • Experience with common computer software and/or computer languages.

Condition of Employment:


  • Reliability Status;
  • Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) Status. Incumbent would receive training to obtain this status; and
  • Work with sources of ionizing radiation is required.

Competency Profile(s):


Compensation:

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
