DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position, reporting to the Dean of Research Services, Innovation & Entrepreneurship and working closely with the FastStart faculty team, is responsible for the development, management and execution of FastStart's goals in the Academic Plan.

The position oversees the daily operations of the 360Insights Entrepreneurship Centre, directing FastStart's service offerings, coordinating faculty advisors and managing a work study student team to support FastStart services, including the Creative Suite & Studio and the FastTECH Makerspace.

The Manager, Entrepreneurship Services, provides a variety of services for students to support their new business startup ventures, and leads and manages partnerships with external colleagues, partners and stakeholders of FastStart.

The position is also responsible for maintaining records for external funding and reporting purposes (if applicable) and managing the annual budget.

The Manager, Entrepreneurship Services is responsible for the development and management of strategic industry partnerships which are vital to the success of FastStart's five unique service streams:
E-commerce, social enterprise, food, technology, and the arts.

The position is also the lead staff advisor for the Enactus DC team, providing operational and liaison support for the team and Durham College - in partnership with the Enactus DC student and faculty leadership team.

Support and one-on-one meetings to provide guidance, mentorship and coaching to student companies.

The Manager, Entrepreneurship Services leads mentorship and coaching services for DC student entrepreneurs, ensuring that the appropriate programming and staffing is in place for each student, and meets one-on-one with students who have advanced through the online intake program.

Specific services provided by the Manager, Entrepreneurship Services include business coaching, marketing and brand strategy, partnership development support, introductions to funding partners and college program partners, faculty support, connections to industry mentors, scale-up guidance, and career pathway advisory services.

Daily supervision of the work study student team within the 360Insights Entrepreneurship Centre.

Work study students support student entrepreneurs with various aspects of their business launch, and provide the frontline operation of the Entrepreneurship Centre, ensuring new students are enrolled in the intake program.

Additionally the Manager, Entrepreneurship Services oversees work study students who operate FastStart's Creative Suite & Studio and Makerspace Rooms.

Work Study student talent to be managed includes:

customer service, office administration, graphic design, videography, web development, as well as various skills in the technology arena (e.g., the operation of 3D printers, raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc.).

The Manager, Entrepreneurship Services also guides the work of several faculty members who receive SWF time to provide mentorship and guidance to FastStart student entrepreneurs and delivery of programs in FastStart's five service streams:
FastTECH, Food Foundry, Maker2Market, E-SHOP, and the SHIFT Program.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • The incumbent will have a Masters degree in a relevant area including Business, Entrepreneurship or Marketing. A Bachelor of Education and/or teaching experience is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience working directly in the startup industry, with entrepreneurs, or in an administrative, managerial or creative capacity with a business startup, or as a founding member of a startup. Alternatively, five years of experienc
