Job Summary


The Financial Analyst is responsible for carrying out financial analysis in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, ensuring adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Preparing and verifying journal entry adjustments and accruals, preparing required reports for month-end, quarter-end reviews, year-end audit and budget presentations, performing ad hoc accounting analysis.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out financial analysis, verification, processing and posting of journal entries to G / L including adjustments, accruals, reversals, and recurring entries.
  • Ensure reasonableness of account balances.
  • Prepare reconciliations schedules for Capital/Asset cost related accounts.
  • Analysis of monthly variances of actual expenditures from planned
  • Prepare detailed variance analysis schedules to clients
Prepare relevant portion of monthly financial report for review by Directors and VPs of Corporate Services groups

  • Provide advice and support to departments on budgeting and forecasting, and financial inquiries as it relates to business decision making.
  • Prepare and participate in the consolidation of variance analysis to support departmental input for EMC and Board of Directors Financial reports
  • Undertake or participate in special projects, as assigned (e.g. Benchmarking, Business Process Analysis)
  • Work with the Technology Project managers to transfer completed projects to fixed assets on a timely basis.
  • Monitor new or revised company programs and initiatives to determine impacts on corporate financial budgeting and reporting policies, procedures, tools and systems
  • Provided consolidation and synthesis of departmental forecast / budgets to contribute to the development of overall NAV CANADA budgets, financial plans and budget presentation for the EMC and Board of Directors
  • Provide periodic and ad hoc reports and annual submissions of budget reporting and respond to departmental and Corporate Reporting requests for information and reports

Education/Occupational Certification:

  • Graduation with a bachelor's degree from a recognized university/ diploma from community college and acceptable specialization in commerce or business administration 10 to 15 years of relevant knowledge and experience.
  • Professional accounting designation (eg. CPA) is an asset.

Experience:


  • Experience in monitoring financial transactions, reconciling accounts, preparing, and analyzing financial information.
  • Must have experience in financial analysis and manipulating large volumes of data. This would include strong computer skills, particularly with Excel, and the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise form.
  • Experience providing financial advisory services.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of theories, principles, standards, best practices, concepts, methods and techniques required to develop and monitor financial reporting and budgeting and forecasting procedures and processes.
  • Knowledge of IFRS, for operating and capital expenditure and financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and financial administration policies, processes and/or procedures.
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools (Microsoft Power BI) Dashboards, creation, maintenance, and usage.
  • Knowledge of Excel (advanced level functions, pivot tables, macros), PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of ERP Systems, Oracle/Workday.
  • Knowledge of research, data collection, validation, verification and analysis methods and techniques for financial reporting and control systems.
  • In depth knowledge of database structures (ex. TM1 Perspectives) and large datasets.
