  • Job SummaryThe Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic resiliency.


The Land Use Policy Planning and Ecosystems Division is responsible for leading BC's land management strategies to ensure that land use decisions support the province's goals for reconciliation with Indigenous Nations, conservation of wildlife and habitat and economic growth.

The Ecosystems Branch leads the development of strategic conservation policy, science, and assessments for native species and ecosystems.

The Branch is responsible for developing strategic frameworks, standards, policies, legislation/regulation, and guidance for species and ecosystems and setting priorities for conservation and recovery of species and ecosystems that guide the actions of the Natural Resource Sector (NRS).

The Branch, in coordination with our partners, provides conservation science leadership, expertise, as well as services for assessing the status of provincial species and ecosystems.


The Conservation Policy Analyst is responsible for coordinating and leading the research, analysis, development and implementation of strategic policies and legislation for conservation of biodiversity and species and ecosystems of conservation concern.


Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in biology, natural resource management, public administration or equivalent and 5 years of recent related experience; OR
  • Graduate degree in biology, natural resource management, public administration or equivalent and 3 years of recent related experience: OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Recent Related Experience must include:

  • Experience leading the analysis and development of federal, provincial, or localgovernment legislation, regulation and policy related to conservation and/or natural resource management.
  • Experience leading, managing, planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments in the natural resource sector.
  • Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content.
  • Experience providing professional advice and recommendations on legislation, policy and programs through policy papers and briefing material.
Preference may be given for any of the following:

  • Experience in developing policy or legislation related to biodiversity, ecosystem-based management, species and ecosystems of conservation concern.
  • Experience building and maintaining cooperative and productive relationships with internal and external partners.

About this Position:


One permanent, full-time position is currently available and can be based in any Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship office.
