Job Description:
What is the role?
The HR Generalist manages the administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs.
The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas:
departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations and general employment inquires.
What will you do?
- Investigate and address employee complaints thoroughly and objectively, within the scope of employee relations, asking appropriate questions while evaluating responses; recommends solutions and following up as needed
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client, company and personnel information
- Report any employee issues/concerns to the Manager/Department Head along with notifying the Human Resources Manager
- Respond to inquiries regarding payroll, time and attendance, and performance reviews
- Ensure that employee reviews are completed in a timely manner
- Assist new employees with new hire paperwork and ensures that such completed documentation is provided to the Payroll Department
- Assist new hires in registering online with Employee Self Service (ESS)
- Ensure adherence to Pet Retail Brands OFI standards and track opportunities for employee performance, behavior and/or attendance, as needed
- Provide management and employees with information and interpretation of federal, state and company human resource policies, rules and procedures
- Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures including Employee Handbook
- Manage HR related projects and initiatives as required
- Understanding in areas such as EEO, employment and labor laws.
- Ensure personnel files are in compliance with applicable legal requirements
- Handle employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing.
- Support recruiting initiatives as needed
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in human resource administration or related field preferred
- A minimum of 35 years of HR Generalist experience.
- Must be knowledgeable in employment law, ADA and EEO regulations, workers' compensation and OSHA law.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with management, associates, peers, the public and clients.
- Ability to communicate unpleasant news and difficult information in a productive, prompt and appropriate manner.
- Ability to address personnel issues in a confidential, professional manner.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative and influencing skills, including presentation, facilitation and negotiation.
- Ability to ensure legal and policy compliance.
- Ability to serve as a change agent.
- Excellent judgment and customer service skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Adapts to changing work demands/priorities/environments.
