Currently located in Downsview Park with plans to move to the Rouge National Urban Park - with possibility of some remote work

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing and regulating Toronto Wildlife Centre's payroll including but not limited to: ensuring compliance of legislative requirements, managing the benefit plan, and providing expertise and critical insights into assessing our current payroll practices and systems.
About Toronto Wildlife Centre:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining on time and accurate endtoend payroll to our employees
- Act as point of contact for management and employees regarding payroll and benefits
- Ensure employee changes regarding payroll and benefits are timely and accurately updated
- Provide guidance on payroll related matters to employees and act as point of escalation for payroll inquiries and concerns
- Assist with preparing reports and participate in the gathering of information for management as well as during audits
- Audit and reconcile payroll processing to ensure accuracy
- Verify, validate, and enter group benefits invoices
- Process quarterly and yearend accruals
- Work closely with the management team on payroll and related
- Champion process improvement, modifications, updates, and enhancement in technology to ensure optimal performance in the delivery of payroll services
- Analyze process improvements and actively seek opportunities to improve payroll systems, service, communication, and collaboration with critical departments
- Other duties as they relate to this position
Education & Experience:
- Postsecondary education in a related field
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation an asset
- Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) an asset
- Experience working in a related finance role an asset
Competencies:
- Proven ability to administer payroll while prioritizing competing tasks and simultaneously meeting timesensitive demands
- Indepth and uptodate knowledge of provincial and federal payroll principals, practices, regulations, and standards
- Excellent analytical skills, including financial analysis experience reconciling accounts, proficiency with payroll software such as Ceridian or ADP
- Proficiency in Microsoft's Office Suite and basic knowledge of databases
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of working collaboratively within a team with the ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely
- Passion for Toronto Wildlife Centre's mission with a genuine concern for and understanding of wildlife/environmental issues and the sensitive needs of working in close proximity to wild patients
Physical Requirements:
- Requires the ability to spend extended periods sitting and using a computer keyboard
Working Conditions:
- This position requires working near materials and animals that may trigger allergic reactions
- Open office environment, with equipment noise and the possibility of frequent interruptions
- Ability to relocate to our new site in the Rouge National Urban Park
