The
Creating Opportunities Strategy is a Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre program targeted to low-income individuals with multiple barriers to employment.

The program is designed to meet each individual where they currently sit on the pre-employment spectrum. There are three streams (pathways) in the

Creating Opportunities Program:
Learning Pathway, Experience Pathway, and Transitions Pathway.


The
Learning Pathway is designed to provide participants with basic life skills and to strengthen their capacity for change through short-term workshops and sessions.

The
Workplace Experience Pathway is a 16-week job placement program which runs three sessions annually. It is designed to support participants who require hands-on workplace skills and experience to gain competitive employment.

The
Transitions Pathway provides coaching and further training to participants of the other two pathways to support their transition to the workplace.


JOB PURPOSE


The Workplace Experience Pathway Facilitator works directly with Creating Opportunities Strategy participants, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Workplace Experience Pathway.

They provide one-on-one coaching, group workshops, individual goal setting, and mediation within the participants' work departments.

They work in partnership with other program staff to determine appropriate supports for each participant, and continuously assess and update workshop curriculum to ensure relevance and alignment with current labor market trends and participant needs.

Additionally, they monitor and evaluate participant progress and provide regular feedback to support skill development and growth.

The ultimate goal of the Workplace Experience Pathway Facilitator is to assist participants in achieving their short and long-term employment goals and transition into sustainable employment.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Coaching and Support

  • Provide daily coaching and guidance to participants in their work placements at the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre, building trust and supporting personal and professional development.
  • Collaborate with program staff to offer tailored oneonone support to participants, helping them achieve their short and longterm employment goals.
  • Coordinate with external support agencies to provide participants with resources and assistance based on their individual needs and barriers.
  • Identify and coordinate relevant community supports for participants (counselling, emergency housing, financial aid, childcare, etc.)

Workshops and Training

  • Develop and facilitate group workshops on topics such as Workplace Essential Skills, Workplace Communication, Job Readiness, and Job Preparation.
  • Coordinate with external partners to provide additional skill development opportunities and resources for participants, such as jobspecific training and certifications.
  • Continuously assess and update workshop curriculum to ensure relevance and alignment with current labour market trends and participant needs.
  • Implement various teaching methods and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote participant engagement, including interactive activities, group discussions, roleplays, and guest speakers.

Goal Setting and Action Planning:


  • Assist participants in setting realistic shortterm and longterm employment goals and developing personalized action plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate participants' progress toward their goals, adjusting action plans as needed and providing ongoing support.

Communication and Collaboration:


  • Maintain open communication with all team members, department supervisors, and managers to ensure effective support and coaching for participants.
  • Work with COS staff to identify and explore adaptations for individual participants, seeking out new opportunities and incorporating innovative approaches to support goal achievement.
  • Assist in creating promotional material for the Communications team to be shared on the SFBLC website and social media.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:


  • Collect and maintain participant progress and outcomes documentation, sharing information with relevant staff.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the Workplace Experience Pathway and provide reports to the Program Manager and other stakeholders as required.
