    Student Assistant

    In the appointment of Student Assistant, your general duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinate garden logistics at the McEown Park Community Garden
  • Primary contact for gardeners throughout the summer months
  • Supporting covid-19 procedures
  • Administrative and communication support
  • Solving gardener complaints or disputes
  • Addressing facilities or operational problems
  • Supporting gardening education
  • Representing the university amongst the garden
  • Your general location of work will be the McEown Park Community Garden and remotely online, and you will report to Janelle Hutchinson.

    Required Number of Hours : Up to 20 hours per week
    Duration of Employment : May 13, 2024 up to October 31, 2024

    Qualifications (Skills and Abilities): Candidates must be a registered USask graduate student planning to attend classes in Septemberand have a good understanding of urban gardening and food security based on their studies in horticulture, nutrition, sustainability or a related field. Must have experience in gardening, community or student organizing in multicultural settings, knowledgeable about student life in residence and conflict resolution.

    Required Competencies:

  • Must have strong communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with internal and external partners
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Comfortable with physical tasks such as setting up water hoses, assisting with setting up garden plots or handling garden tools
