What can I expect to do in this role?: Guided by our modern regulator principles, you will:

  • provide expert interpretation of legislation and regulations (e.g. Food Safety and Quality Act, 2001, Milk Act, Animal Health Act, 2009, Livestock Community Sales Act, Bees Act, )
- develop and deliver educational and training sessions on regulatory requirements
- provide expertise and support to program areas on complex compliance matters
- collaborate with other government partners on industry issues


How do I qualify?:


Mandatory requirements:


  • You must possess a valid 'G' driver's license in order to conduct site visits, you must have the ability to travel to locations not accessible by public transportation.
  • You must be proficient in English and possess oral and written French language skills at the advanced level
  • You must possess or have the ability to obtain a Standard first aid/CPR certification.
  • You must have the ability to complete the Ministry's Conflict Management Tactics training and annual recertification
  • You must have the ability to work in inclement weather for long periods of time and irregular hours.

Enforcement and compliance expertise:


  • You have experience interpreting legislation and regulations.
  • You have experience identifying risks and situations of noncompliance.
  • You have experience developing and implementing risk management and/or corrective action plans.
  • You have conflict resolution skills to effectively promote, impact and influence compliance.

Communication and interpersonal skills:


  • You have oral communication skills to explain food safety requirements, regulations and compliance procedures.
  • You have presentation skills to deliver educational and training sessions.
  • You have interpersonal skills to sustain positive relationships with industry stakeholders, other regulators, government partners and the public.
  • You have written communication and computer skills to prepare inspection reports, educational materials, project plans, warning letters and various other correspondence.

Industry knowledge:


  • You have a strong understanding of the agriculture and food sector (e.g. food safety issues, animal welfare, agricultural commodities, regulatory requirements).
