    Position and Responsibilities

    As a member of the production department, you will be responsible for adherence to the correct technical operating conditions of the U03 refinery for departmental and refinery objectives, with respect to production (quantity, quality, and accountability), safety and environment, and radiation protection. You will be responsible for providing technical support to the operation, including day-to-day troubleshooting for change control project work, authorization for expenditure (AFE) project work, and general technical improvements.

    You will monitor all information systems, perform analysis of short-term and long-term production data, and physically inspect all operational areas of responsibility to identify potential and current problems to ensure that correct operating conditions are applied. Coordinates work required in operating areas with senior production coordinator, shift supervisors, maintenance supervisors, and area operators. Directs or assists in troubleshooting activities. Identifies cost saving or operational improvements. Coordinates communication of production priorities to maintenance department and acts as a technical resource to maintenance as required to expedite repairs. You will be "on-call" for the department every fourth week.

    Identifies opportunities for improvements, initiates projects, investigates and recommends solutions to resolve problems and safety concerns, or to develop cost saving opportunities. Responsible for coordinating, completing, and maintaining the hazard assessments on all changes to the facility and ensures recommendations from the assessment process are considered for implementation. Change control activities include capital investment proposals, engineering design, cost estimating, hazard assessments, cost control, procurement, installation, commissioning and writing operating procedures. Carries out, or directs laboratory, pilot, and full-scale operational testing.

    Prepares timely and complete project status reports, weekly progress, and activity reports. Participates in monitoring of operating expenditures and controls expenditures on capital projects to ensure cost objectives are achieved. Participates in the development of departmental objectives, departmental operating, and capital budgets. Keeps up to date on the latest technology as related to job function. Continuously monitors plant processing equipment to assess and compare to new equipment available with the view of cost and/or operating improvements.

    Responsible for the maintenance of existing operating procedures in areas of responsibility and other areas of expertise. Provides input into the development of training plans. Continuously monitors performance of operations groups to identify areas of deficiency in operating procedures or training and consults with the training department to ensure deficiencies are addressed.

    Education and Qualifications

    Requirements of the position:

  • BSc in Chemical or Mechanical is preferred
  • Registered, or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario
  • Five to eight years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong chemistry background
  • Technical writing, problem solving and excellent communication skills
  • Project management and process engineering experience.
