    The Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, located on Hamilton's beautiful mountain brow, is home to one of the largest and most comprehensive Regional Cancer Programs in Ontario. It offers a diverse set of patient care services including a comprehensive emergency department, medical and intensive care services, surgery oncology, hematology-oncology, stem cell transplants, orthopedics, arthroplasty, rehabilitation, and diagnostics. It serves a population of more than 2.3 million people.

    Located at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, unit E/F4 is an active inpatient facility providing integrated clinical, research and education services for adults with surgical needs and/or digestive disease disorders. The unit is comprised of diverse services including surgical oncology, surgical, medical and palliative care. The goals of services to our patients are cure, control or palliation. There are three observational care beds and remote telemetry available if required. Patients are often admitted for management of complex issues such as surgical emergencies and symptom control.

    Position Summary

    E/F4 takes a patient & family-centered, evidence based approach to care and is known for integrating interventions to reduce the incidence of hospital harm indicators such as Sepsis, Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections, Surgical Site Infections, and Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections.

    Registered Nurses (RNs) working in this unit help coordinate, evaluate, and advance patient care to allow for healthy populations. This fast-paced unit provides an environment with high acuity to enhance clinical knowledge and skill. Our nurses are highly skilled, frequently support learners and students, and are acknowledged as experts in wound care, pain management, and surgical care. There are many opportunities for professional growth and career advancements within this program.

    The RN collaborates with surgeons, physicians, and physician assistants to implement and evaluate patient care. They are frequently caring for higher acuity patients with complex medical needs in a large multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate critical decision-making and patient advocacy.

    Schedule Work Hours

    Rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

    Qualifications
  • Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in an adult surgical setting
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Familiarity with the unique challenges of an acute care setting
  • Knowledgeable in acute pain management strategies, enteral and parenteral nutrition, complex wound care, stoma management and vascular access skills
  • Competency in assessing and prioritizing clinical demands
  • Exhibits organizational skills required to function in high acuity environments
  • Displays exceptional communication and respect within an inter-professional team setting
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Proficient in electronic documentation and technology
