POSITION OVERVIEW:


Reporting to the University Librarian, the primary responsibility for the Research Data Management (RDM) Librarian will be to develop, promote and provide services regarding Research Data Management.

These services will align with the strategic priorities of KPU's Research Data Management Strategy.

In addition, this position will create guidelines and best practices for RDM service delivery, and help to develop core structures and resources to support RDM at KPU.


The RDM Librarian will:

  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Library, Office of Research Services, and IT Services to build shared capacity and advance Research Data Management initiatives throughout the KPU community
  • Work with KPU faculty to understand Research Data Management challenges and needs
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation and maintenance of technology that supports RDM
  • Leverage tools and community expertise for data management planning and data archiving (e.g., DMP Assistant)
  • Support the development of appropriate policies and procedures for delivery of RDM services
  • Assist faculty and researchers in developing plans for the responsible and ethical collection, storage, description, and protection of research data
  • Maintain Research Data Management instructional content on the KPU Library website
  • Develop and deliver Research Data Management workshops for faculty and students, and prepare trainthetrainer resources for liaison librarians
  • Keep current on emerging trends and initiatives in Research Data Management, and engage with the broader Canadian research data management community
  • Other activities related to research data management, as required


In addition to the RDM work, this position will also provide in-person and online reference service in all disciplines as a member of a team serving students and faculty in an active teaching and learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Required:_
  • MLIS or equivalent from an ALAaccredited institution
  • Superior written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a collegial team environment
  • Ability to engage effectively in planning and problem solving
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff in a friendly and professional manner within an EDI (Equity Diversity Inclusion) positive organization
  • Flexibility to work remotely or at any campus library, and which may include weekends and evenings
  • Preferred:_
  • Experience working in a university and/or research setting
  • Knowledge of Tri-Agency Research Data Management policies and guiding documents
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research data management principles and practices as well as the research lifecycle and research processes
  • Experience with institutional data repository systems (e.g., Dataverse, FRDR)
  • Familiarity with metadata s
