Job Summary

  • Dalhousie Medical School attracts some of Canada's top students, physicians, and health researchers. With campuses in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick, and over 100 teaching sites across the Maritimes, we provide aspiring doctors and health researchers with the highest caliber education. Reporting to the Building Services Manager, Building Services Assistant is responsible to assist in the management of maintenance issues, security card access, renovations and communications related to service disruptions within the Tupper Building, Link Building, Clinical Research Center and Life Sciences Research Institute.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive building related complaints and inquiries and redirect as necessary and follow up as required.
  • Act as a fully trained resource in Receiving, Biohazardous Waste preparation, dispensing of Liquid Nitrogen and the delivery of Pressurized Gas Cylinders for the Tupper Building, Life Sciences Research Centre, Link Building and the Clinical Research Centre.
  • Conduct visual inspections on requests, determine course of action, request via FAMIS, followup with assigned trade and communicate to occupants throughout process.
  • Assist with the physical movement of furniture, freezers, event set up/dismantling within the facility. Follow up on work and close out work orders when work is completed.
  • Program on web software access for faculty, staff and medical students to space within the complexes and coordinate the management of events for the Faculty as required.
  • Receive, Inspect and Record shipments of all incoming supplies and packages then deliver supplies and packages to recipient(s). Coordinate the delivery and timing of large items with researchers.

Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus three to five years' experience in receiving services and building management issues in a large facility (or an equivalent combination of training and experience)
  • Good understanding of building systems
  • Must be familiar with Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations
  • Comfortable in dispensing Liquid Nitrogen and handling a high volume of gas cylinders
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office programs and be able to multitask
  • Must meet physical demands of role, including lifting heavy packages, and gas cylinders
