Information Technology Technician

(Communications Cabling & Audio Visual)
Vacant Position
Effective immediately Operations Centre, Kentville
Salary commensurate with Job Band 6 ($54,443.45-$66,176.38)

The Information Technology Technician - (Communications Cabling & Audio Visual) will report to and work under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor.

The Information Technology Technician's responsibilities will include:

  • Installation of Data Communications Cabling including UTP(Cat6), Fibre Optic & other communications type cabling, compliant to all safety regulations, federal & provincial codes, industry standards and technical specifications.
  • Installation of Jhooks, cable trays & raceway, equipment racking, grounding/bonding, acoustical/fire stopping, and various technology hardware components as required.
  • Installation of cable terminations & labeling to industry standards and technical specifications.
  • Install and troubleshoot various audiovisual equipment including TV Display Panels, Projectors, Smartboards, security cameras, audio systems and public address systems.
  • Install and support schoolbased computer/technical systems to Centre and industry standards.
  • Test & troubleshoot networks & technical equipment for peak performance and evaluate against Centre & industry standards.
  • Work independently, or as part of a team, to perform installations and solve technical problems.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of industry and educational standards.

Qualifications:


  • Successful completion of an Information Technology, Electronics or Data Cabling program from a university, community college or other recognized institution (or equivalent) is required.
  • An indepth understanding of both hardware and software; the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain various types of computer & technical systems is required.
  • A valid Nova Scotia Driver's License is required.
  • Experience in the installation of communications cable (cat6/fibre optic) is required. A valid NS Communications Cabling Specialist designation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in the installation and support of CCTV systems, public address systems, projectors and audiovisual equipment.
  • Experience with Fluke network test equipment preferred.
  • A working knowledge of network systems & equipment (ethernet switches, wireless). Cisco experience, training or certification will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience providing technical support will be considered an asset, educational setting preferred.
