Overview:


Reporting to the Manager of Engineering for the Precast Division, the Engineer-in-Training would provide engineering and technical resource support for the Winnipeg Precast operation's team.

This is a developmental role and an opportunity to gain widespread expertise within our Concrete Products business with the ultimate goal of building a long-term career with Lafarge.


Responsibilities:


  • Technical support for all areas of the business including:
  • Sales & Estimating
  • Engineering & Drafting
  • Operations
  • Quality Control
  • Project Management

Examples of responsibilities may include:


  • To serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company's vision and critical success factors.
  • Provide product design support for plant production and sales
  • Represent the business unit in various industry and trade associations and specifiers
  • Present training or seminars to individuals or groups on the design and performance advantages of Lafarge products
  • Assist contractors with product installation coordination and provide follow up to ensure owners comply with maintenance and inspection requirements
  • Provide solutions and support specifiers, contractors and owners on assigned projects from inquiry, quotation and completion
  • Work with Project Coordinators to manage each project by contract specifications, ensuring our contractual commitments are met
  • Coordinating with project managers, draftsman, quality control personnel, plant production and erection workers on project details, scheduling, and problem resolution
  • Problem solving for issues that arise in the production facility and on job sites
  • Maintaining calibrations of prestressing and concrete testing equipment
  • Attending client project meetings and providing engineering input
  • Carryout plant and site inspections for quality assurance
  • Providing preliminary designs for budgets/estimates Facilitate research & development for new product development
    Qualifications:
  • Education:
  • Recent graduate from a Bachelor of Engineering Program (Civil/Structural preferred)
  • Experience & Skill Set:
  • Knowledge and experience would be considered an asset within:
  • Consulting engineering industry
  • Contract law knowledge (bonds, contract document preparation)
  • Design approvals with municipalities and/or governments
  • Onsite construction experience would be considered an asset
  • Ability to make rational decisions and resolve conflict
  • A team leader with excellent negotiation, communication and people skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer technical aptitude to learn new systems and programs
  • Selfstarter / Problem solver / Selfdisciplined
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills
