Child and Family Support Worker (EarlyON)




LOCATION:
Toronto, ON





POSITION TYPE:
Full-time Fixed term (37.5 hours/week; 3-year contract)

The Child and Family Support Worker will join our Early Years portfolio at Lumenus.

They will be involved in a newly-funded, START-UP project focusing on the integration of mental health services for the staff and families (
with children 0 - 6 years of age) in EarlyON settings - post covid.


Group Work:
This position co-facilitates regular evidence-based groups (ex; Circle of Security) with EarlyON families. This position will also develop and implement a psycho-educational workshop series.


Consultations:
This position has a focus on providing group consultations for staff teams at different EarlyON Centres


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide support for staff with issues related to program participants including stress, behaviour, trauma, regulation etc.
  • Provide parent/staff coaching, group work, according to client needs and as required in the position.
  • Supporting the screening/intake function as well as setting goals and service plans from a systems perspective.
  • Assessing parenting capacity/parental stress.
  • Assist families with parenting capacity/skillbuilding, dysregulation, coping strategies,
  • Schedule and Cofacilitate (with Psychotherapist) evidencebased groups on regular basis.
  • Developing and implementing (cofacilitating) psychoeducational workshop series for parents with young children that focus on stress management (strategies, deescalation, and wellness promotion)
  • Provide program consultations with the Psychotherapist at external EarlyONs who request this service.
  • Work collaboratively and consulting with multidisciplinary team in an early years setting.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners to ensure integrated and coordinated service to assigned children/families.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision and consultations on a regular basis to ensure quality of care.
  • Facilitate appropriate internal and external referrals when ongoing support(s) are needed ex, speech services, assessments, ongoing counselling etc.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:


  • Early Childhood Education degree/diploma and a member in good standing with College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) OR equivalent training/ experience.
  • Min 3 years working in an early years setting.
  • An advanced diploma or equivalent (Resource Consultant certificate an asset).
  • Experience working with/knowledge of children with extra support needs, inclusive curriculum in early childhood settings.
  • Experience/certification in group facilitation.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:


  • Strong knowledge of child development
  • Excellent assessment, consultation and intervention skills with children/families and relevant experience
  • A strengthbased philosophy of service provision and a belief in the resiliency of children and families.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, time management and problemsolving skills.
  • A selfstarter with an ability to work independently as well as part of an established team.
  • Solid understanding of the antioppressive framework.
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent children and their families.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ, Indigenous, racialized, and newcomer communities as well as autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office.
  • Strong proficiency in English (oral and written).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process.
  • Flexibility and ability to travel to work in different locations as needed.
  • Work flexible hours (including some evenings and weekends).
  • The ability to speak a second language is an asset.
  • A valid Ontario's drivers' license and access to a reliable vehicle preferred.
