ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- develop a training plan and schedule for all dock employees;
- provide training to all dock workers;
- identify training and qualification requirements and provide training resources to ensure that employees are trained and qualified to perform their assigned tasks;
- develop and approve training records for all dock workers;
- monitor and evaluate training of all dock workers; maintain records to support employee training;
- monitor and ensure that all dock workers follow instructions from the freight handling manual;
- supervise, develop, coach, train and evaluate workers;
- monitor and ensure that employees follow work instructions and are in compliance with customer requirements and expectations;
- monitor to see proper freight handling guidelines are being followed;
- identify and resolve problems with Supervisors and OS&D that could delay the delivery of shipments;
- conduct monthly safety inspection audits and management co-chair of health and safety meetings;
- report any health and safety issues/non conformities to the property manager;
- act on all noncompliance issues in a timely manner;
- monitor the load quality to eliminate or minimize claims;
- follow up on claims, overages, shortages and identify, determine the problem and the root causes;
- review pictures taken by other terminals in which improper loading is cited;
- assisting the OS&D Department when required;
- research and investigating pro's on the dock and in the system;
- assist dock workers when needed;
- address customer complaints, investigate accidents, spills and resolve problems;
- enforce Health and Safety rules, policies and procedures and continuously work with Management to promote safety awareness so as to ensure the well being of all employees.

- Any other duties as assigned
- leadership and/or management skills;
- knowledge of health and safety (Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Provincially);
- must be able to multi-task;
- computer literate;
- lead by example philosophy;
- ability to make sound decisions under pressure and meet deadlines;
- certified forklift and reach instructor, propane certified examiner;
- must have experience driving Counterbalance and Reach
- qualified as train the trainer;
- WHMIS training;
- good communication skills
REQUIRED TRAINING:
ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) orientation for all employees is mandatory.
All new employees will go through an orientation that involves the freight flow, the signing of the bills and health and safety requirements.
As part of the training needs, they will go through a job shadowing process with an experienced worker for three to four days for purposes of learning the job, the procedures and the processes.
Other requirements for training needs include the review of the job description and review and understand the following documented quality procedure:sections Competence, awareness and training.
As the Dock Trainer, the Quality Objective is to ensure that all dock workers have been properly trained on handling freight as per the procedures documented in the manual, operating the counterbalance & reach, handling dangerous goods, dealing with spills and any safety requirements as mandated by the law so that customer expectations are met.
