The Position:


We are seeking a regular part-time
psychologist to join the Complex Rehabilitation and Transitional Care team (Complex Continuing Care unit).

The psychologist is part of an interdisciplinary team that provides assessment and treatment to clients admitted for complex rehabilitation and transitional support back to their home or community.

This unit services children and youth from birth to age 18 and often have multi-system disease and/or compromised respiratory systems that require a range of therapy services to meet their care needs.


  • Neuromuscular myopathies (including SMA)
  • Neurodegenerative disorders
  • Spinal cord injuries with tracheostomy and/or ventilation needs
  • Postorgan transplant rehabilitation (eg., heart, lungs, etc.)
  • Postoperative orthopedic surgery rehabilitation
  • Multisystem diseases
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Congenital and acquired airway and respiratory abnormalities
  • Other complex neurological disorders
Typical concerns that you would encounter include the need to support client's and family's:

  • Readiness to engage in therapy
  • Participation in the rehabilitation program
  • Understanding of diagnosis
  • Coping with trauma, whether it be medical trauma or other
  • Transition to community services

Key Responsibilities:


  • The psychologist offers a complete range of psychological services including assessment, intervention/psychotherapy, consultation, education, training, and team support.
  • In partnership with clients/caregivers and the interdisciplinary team, works collaboratively to provide client and familycentred care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented
  • Conducts psychological interventions in both group and individual formats
  • Has strong clinical formulation skills and implements individualized treatment plans based on assessed needs in conjunction with the interprofessional team.
  • Employs a variety of intervention approaches to support client needs and emphasizes trauma specific interventions where indicated
  • Provides appropriate education and training sessions to interprofessional team
  • Supervises psychology practicum and internship students
  • Engages in Program Development and supports program evaluation

Other Requirements:


  • Some evening & weekend work may be required
  • Flexibility to work across other inpatient units

Qualifications:


  • PhD in Psychology and Registration (or eligible for registration) with the College of Psychologists in Ontario required, with declared competencies in Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents. Declared competency with families would be an asset, as would be declared competencies in the areas of Rehabilitation Psychology and/or Health Psychology
  • Knowledge and experience of traumainformed interventions (or willingness to obtain training in these interventions) is required.
