Job Profile:

There is a full-time opening within the Recreation and Culture Division, Community Development Department available immediately.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation - Older Adult Services, this position will provide leadership and support to contract, part-time and volunteer support staff to ensure quality program delivery and excellent customer service to meet current and changing needs of the community.

The primary function will include Older Adult Centre programming, Working with Community Groups and Volunteer management.


What you will be doing:


  • Guided by the Strategic Plan and other steering documents, ensures the creative vision and implementation of program development plans that address the needs of the community. Adheres to governing legislations and regulations; Corporate, Departmental, and Divisional policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines
  • Proactive programming for upcoming sessions studying economic, social and recreational trends, implementing needs assessments, and evaluating programs in assigned areas
  • Ongoing research, acquiring knowledge and expertise related to industry trends pertinent to the portfolio including assisting with benchmarking and comparisons
  • Sessional reporting of program capacities on collection and analysis of data, revenue, and expenses
  • Incident/accident reporting and communication
  • Participates in risk management process identifying, assessing, and controlling financial, legal, strategic, and security risks in assigned areas
  • Active participation in the implementation of quality standards including training and development, performance measurement and assessments, assisting with the development implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures to manage risk and raising awareness of the benefits of highquality programs
  • Liaise with various internal/external partners and stakeholders to ensure fulsome programming
  • Purchase and manage inventory and functionality of supplies, equipment, uniforms, and program materials
  • Assists with the preparation, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting of expenses, revenues, and outcomes in budget and grants
  • In collaboration with Human Resources and the Supervisor, provide support to the recruitment, leadership, and guidance of contract, parttime instructors, and volunteers developing and delivering strategic recruitment and retention plans
  • Providing consultative services to various senior groups including Operating Boards, Special Events Committees, Clubs, etc., advising on programming planning and implementation, committee development, public relations, budgeting, risk and volunteer management
  • In collaboration with Human Resources and the Supervisor, responsible for the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, supervision, and training of various volunteers according to policy and participates in regular volunteer assessment and recognition events.
  • Assist with the planning, delivery and documentation of staff and volunteer training and ongoing monitoring of staff certifications
  • Deliver strategies to increase customer recruitment and retention through continuous improvement of customer experience. Timely and appropriate followup with customer concerns, requests, and inquiries.
  • Assist as needed with the customer registration process, monitoring waitlists and making recommendations

Education:


  • Two year College Diploma in Recreation and Leisure

Experience and Knowledge:


A minimum of 2-3 years experience in:

  • Older Adult Programming
  • Volunteer Management
  • Working with Community Groups

High Five-PHCD Certificate & Standard First Aid, CPR C AED Certificate


Your compensation:


This position is within Grade 8 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $70,344 -$74,763, a comprehensive benefits package is included.

Enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).


Hours of work:


The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the CUPE 1882 Inside Worker's Collective Agreement, (35 hours per week), Monday to Sunday, and may be scheduled between 6:00 a.m.

to 11:00 p.m.
