JOB DESCRIPTION:
BIOLOGY RESEARCH SCIENTIST
The Biology Research Scientist oversees the lab and research activities required at Aspire, focusing on the development and execution of testing and methodologies that optimize Aspire's farming and production.
The Lead supervises, supports, and trains staff, monitors progress towards goals, develops new research methodologies, and participates in setting R&D strategy to ensure high-level company objectives are achieved.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote a Health and Safety, Food Safety, and GMP Culture by adhering to company standards at all times.
- Work with leadership stakeholders to scout new R&D opportunities, develop relationships with industry, and understand priority issues in the insects for food and feed sector.
- Cultivate support and investment for research with producers and producer groups, product suppliers, infrastructure suppliers, municipalities, and other potential partners.
- Manage a research and innovation program with multidisciplinary areas of focus.
- Design and manage field trials.
- Coordinate contracted thirdparty breeding and research.
- Draft research proposals for internal KPIs and possible external funding.
- Monitor progress towards goals and course correct as required to ensure objectives are met.
- Develop and monitor team OKRs and KPIs.
- Continuously explore, develop, optimize, test, and implement new methodologies and processes.
- Collaborate with other team leads and the executive to ensure crossfunctional alignment on work plans, strategies, and timelines.
- Conduct "handson" bench work whenever needed to maximize team capacity, optimize methodologies, and aggressively progress R&D outcomes.
- Other related duties as required or assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field of study.
- Experience managing teams and junior scientists.
- Ability to work in a fastpaced environment to contribute to multiple projects.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with crossfunctional teams.
- Applied knowledge of leadership, management, and team motivation principles and practices with demonstrated experience in managing people.
- Familiarity and experience with project management principles, processes, and tools.
- Familiarity with intellectual property (IP) protection and management.
- Sound working knowledge of budgeting, business development, and corporate planning.
Pay:
$60,000.00-$95,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:
- London, ON N6M 0C5: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
