Responsibilities:

What will your typical day look like?

As a Caller Taker:
You will answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

You will acquire the necessary information from calls to determine the service required and initiate calls for service through our Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.

You will answer internal and external phone lines and SkyTrain portable radios and execute requests. You will conduct CPIC/CAD/RMS queries and answer our texting service.
As an Information (Info)

Operator:

You support the Police Officers and Dispatchers with requests and focus on becoming more knowledgeable in the workings of the CPIC and RMS systems.

You will run queries on person(s), vehicle(s), and property and provide this information to the Officers. You will respond to requests for information and search databases to help with police investigations.


As a Dispatcher:
You will review files for service and dispatch Police officers to emergency and non-emergency calls.

You will co-ordinate additional resources, monitor the location and activities of all police units and work as part of a team to ensure the safety of the Officers and Transit Passengers.


Qualifications:


EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent, including courses in typing with minimum of 45 words / minute

EXPERIENCE:

  • A period of up to six (6) months in the position is required to gain knowledge of TSML communication operations, police roles and responsibilities, security equipment, and to memorize technical language, systems, code and procedures. Must pass enhanced security clearance (including fingerprinting) and intake interview for access to police databases.

Other Information:

Training includes Classroom and on-the-job Mentorship Training. Training is expected to take place September 2023 through March 2024.

As a Police Communications Operator Trainee, you will be expected to be available for the full training schedule. Classroom will be 4 days per week at 7.5 hours per day. On-the-job Mentorship training will be shifted at 10.5 hours per day.
You must be available to work 10.5 hours shifts including nights, evenings, weekends and Statutory holidays.
