About the Olds College Centre for Innovation

  • Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) is the applied research division of Olds College of Agriculture & Technology with a focus on agriculture and smart ag technology.
Industry partners connect with OCCI for support in the development and testing of innovative products in core areas:
crop production, livestock production, environmental stewardship, cereal breeding and technology integration.


The Opportunity - Research Assistant Clerks provide support for a variety of project activities in crop production and agricultural technology integration. Research assistants work closely with the team at OCCI, faculty experts, and the Olds College Smart Farm staff on a variety of projects and focus on data management, analytics, and reporting. Research assistants are accountable to the research policies and procedures of Olds College.


Key Job Functions:


  • Assist with the coordination of day to day operations of research activities and data collection in agricultural technology integration
  • Lead project activities related to data collection, data entry, data management, and reporting for assigned projects and activities
  • Assist and contribute to communication and outreach activities such as lunch 'n learn presentations, tours and field days

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:


  • At least two years of postsecondary education in agriculture, environmental sciences, or related field (a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered)
  • At least two years of relevant experience in a work environment (outside of school)
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience with agricultural research and data collection would be considered an asset
  • Physically fit, organized and detailoriented with the ability to work under mínimal supervision in a dynamic environment
  • Valid Class 5 drivers' license

Health and Safety:


The employee is responsible for being aware of health and safety responsibilities and expectations as outlined in college policy, departmental and area procedures, and provincial legislation.

The employee will attend training as required by the supervisors and conduct work in a manner that protects the health and safety of themselves and others.

The employee will report health and/or safety concerns or hazards to the supervisor of the Health and Safety Committee.
