Set Up Crew/custodian - Burlington, Canada - Royal Botanical Gardens

Located at the head of Lake Ontario and within the municipalities of Burlington and Hamilton, Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is the largest botanical garden in Canada and one of the nation's earliest nature sanctuaries.

As a member of the
Set-Up Crew/Custodian team you will work closely with our Special Events and Facilities departments to ensure events are properly set up and taken down based on pre-determined floor plans.
This is a 6-month contract and is a unionized role.
Hours will be up to 30 hours per week based on operational needs, and require the flexibility to work day, afternoon, evening, weekend and statutory holiday shifts.
Duties
- To set up and tear down various events such as weddings, catered events, fall festivals, concerts, as well as RBG's Halloween and Winter Lights Festival.
- Emptying garbage bins, picking up garbage from the grounds, parking lots and any emergency cleanups.
- In conjunction with operations, natural lands and horticultural staff, maintain areas around RBG buildings, parking lots and garden areas as needed.
- Assist Maintenance staff with various tasks as assigned.
- Support Visitor Experience staff with parking control during large scale events,
- Assist entertainer's in setting up their equipment upon request.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Hours will vary from week to week but will not exceed 30 hours.
- Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Extended periods of walking and standing.
- Frequent lifting, carrying pushing and pulling objects up to 25 kg.
- Frequent bending, squatting and reaching.
- Operation of vehicles, motorized and manual equipment.
- CSA approved Green Patch steeltoe safety boots that extend 68' above the ankle are mandatory.
Qualifications
- A valid "G" driver's license.
- Satisfactory driving record required for insurance purposes.
- Ability to perform physical activities associated with the position.
- Work experience in a similar position is an asset.
