Location

Position Overview

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide a range of supportive interventions for students who exhibit self-regulation, social, emotional, physical, and/or medical needs.

Your leadership and ability to coach others is supported by cultural and ability sensitivity, and related experience supporting individuals with special needs.

In keeping with the goals of our corporate strategic plan and department business strategy, the Specialized Program Instructor - Behaviour & Inclusion Specialist - will be responsible for providing program support to participants in the City's Summer Camp programs.

Times and days may vary based on the program and participant requirements but is based on a day camp schedule with approximate hours of 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday during the months of July and August.

This position reports to the Recreation Programmer. Travel within Burlington may be required of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Conflict resolution and supporting individual participants with behavioural needs
  • Managing Personal care requirements of participants in program which may include physical demands of hygiene, toileting, feeding, lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment.
  • Supporting staff with conflict resolution practices and coaching through behaviour management principles
  • Assisting with the evaluation of programs
  • Providing outstanding customer service
  • Adhering to preestablished risk management practices
  • Coaching and mentorship of Program Leaders

Requirements:

The incumbent will also be responsible for presenting the following qualifications:

  • Current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development
  • Behaviour Management Systems Training or equivalent
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Position will require occasional travel around Burlington. Must be able to provide own transportation.
