Position Summary


The Bookkeeper reports to the Executive Director and works closely with our part-time Controller on matters relating to financial processes.

is responsible for the Breakfast Program, offering meals 6 mornings a week, Monday to Saturday. Coordinator is expected to be on site between 5:30am and 9:30am.

This program operates out of the same space as a safe injection site (after Breakfast hours); the kitchen coordinator must operate through a harm reduction lens.


Scope of bookkeeping responsibilities
Detailed activity descriptions are available upon request but cover transactions, entries, reconciliations and working papers, as applicable, to the following:

  • Payroll
  • Revenue
  • Banks and credit cards
  • Vendors
  • General accounting
  • Electronic & paper document file management

We are looking for

  • Criminal Record Check complete
  • Experience working in a diverse environment with folks from a variety of backgrounds (preferred)

Skills/Knowledge

  • Experience with Quick Books online or similar systems
  • Experience with automated payroll systems such as ADP
  • Good organizational skills, initiative, and followthrough
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Reliable, dependable, trustworthy and confidentialityminded
  • An understanding of and sensitivity to the issues of working with those experiencing poverty including those who are unhoused (preferred)

Nature and Extent of Contacts

  • Keep Executive Director and part time Controller advised of bookkeeping situations requiring their attention
  • Keep confidential all information related to clients, operations and finances of the BSM
  • Represent the interests of the BSM in community interactions

Physical, Mental and Visual Demands

  • Visual acuity and good health needed to perform job responsibilities
  • Comfortable but busy community agency

Position Details
Part-time (min. 16-hour/wk.).

Mutually-acceptable work routines and schedules plus combination of on-site and virtual work settings can be established in consultation the BSM Executive Director and part time Controller.


Remuneration:
Commensurate based on experience and qualifications. Brunswick Street Mission is committed to paying a living wage. Contract service arrangement is also acceptable.
