Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Lead Hand, Facilities, is responsible for the day to day maintenance operations at North Bay Public Library.

Summary of Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for the day to day maintenance operations at North Bay Public Library:

• Sweeps and mops all floors, and stairs, vacuums and spot cleans carpets, washes walls, shelving and removes trash.
• Cleans all washrooms and sweeps and mops floors in washrooms.
• Cleans and sanitizes areas.
• Ensures the security of the building; unlocks/locks the main doors for the general public and staff.
• Picks up books and videos from drops.
• Performs preventative maintenance.
• Performs minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Makes repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment.
• Makes minor repairs to building furniture and hardware.
• Makes minor repairs to drywall; paints designated areas.
• Monitors and maintains computerized heating and cooling systems for building.
• Checks building for lighting and equipment performance.
• Maintains inventory of regular custodial and maintenance supplies.
• Sets up auditorium and meeting rooms; assists in set ups and takedowns for special events.
• Handles/disposes of routine hazardous material using appropriate gear and protocol.
• Moves furniture, equipment and supplies.
• Assembles shelving and furniture as required.
• Shovels and salts all entrances.
• Attends to any building maintenance problems as they arise.
• Other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications Required for Position:

• High school diploma.
• Two (2) years' experience as a Custodian of a commercial building.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Demonstrated handyman skills (electrical, plumbing, painting, and mechanical).
• Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License.
• Good working knowledge of proper/safe use of cleaning materials.
• Ability to work independently as required.

Job Type:
Part-time


Salary:
$25.44 per hour


Flexible Language Requirement:

• French not required

• Day shift
• Evenings
• Morning shift
• Weekend availability

Experience:

- commercial custodian: 2 years (required)


Licence/Certification:
