    Description

    The Opportunity:

    TheEmergency Vehicle Technician – Heavy Duty Mechanic plays a pivotal role inensuring the operational readiness of emergency vehicles, includingbut not limited to fire trucks, ambulances and other equipment used by theDepartment. The position requires a strong technical background and acommitment to the safety and functionality of emergency response vehicles.

    The position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing,and maintaining emergency vehicles, as part of the Departments preventativemaintenance program, as well as to meet or exceed industry standards and ensureall work and services meet regulatory and compliance requirements current toProvincial legislation, City Bylaws and related safety sensitive policies andprocedures.

    As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

  • Completion of grade 12.
  • Valid Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate ofProficiencies as approved by the Province of Alberta
  • Automotive Service Technician Certificate ofProficiencies as approved by the Province is considered an asset.
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician and/or AmbulanceTechnician as provided through the Emergency Vehicle Technician CertificationCommission is considered an asset.
  • Completion of an Industrial Heavy Equipment Technologydiploma considered an asset.
  • Additional courses in welding, metal stress andfatigue, air brakes, ABS brakes, hydraulics, computer components, electricalsystems and Government vehicle inspections are considered assets.
  • Two years' experience as a journeyman equipmentmechanic.
  • Previous Registration and Experience as AmbulanceInspector as per EHS Alberta Health Services Ambulance Inspections requirementsis considered an asset.
  • Experience or certifications in centrifugal Fire Pumprepair, maintenance and certification testing considered are consideredpositive attributes.
    Valid Alberta driver license. (Class 3 with Qendorsement.)
  • A full set of mechanic's tools, as per management'slist
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools andstandard practices of the Heavy Duty and Automotive mechanic trade withknowledge of complex automotive electrical and hydraulic systems, and airconditioning systems and complex wiring problems.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles and operation ofdiesel and gasoline internal combustion engines.
    Knowledge of the operating and repair characteristicsof a large variety of fleet vehicles.
  • Observe safety precautions and handling procedures andtechniques while working with hot engines, high pressure oils, fuels, gases anddangerous chemicals.
  • Knowledge of safety aspects and standardprecautions. Must be willing to complywith all safety policies.
  • Knowledge of the operating and repair characteristicsof a large variety of fleet vehicles.
  • Knowledge of centrifugal fire pumps, and the abilityto perform maintenance on same.
  • Ability to read and understand complex electricalschematics and other blueprints, shop manuals and diagrams. Ability to follow complex directions ortrouble shooting trees from repair manuals and online diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of and ability to:
  • work with electrical diagnostic equipment anddiagnostic software to repair equipment;
  • upload and download ECM calibration updates andsoftware programs;
  • work with Microsoft Office software including Outlook,Excel and Word;
  • work with large complex databases and fleetmaintenance software packages;
  • easily navigate the internet;
  • install, repair and program programmable logiccontrollers would be considered an asset;
  • install, program and repair GPS tracking system formobile equipment, specifically knowledge of ACTECH would be considered anasset.
  • Demonstrates initiative, critical thinking andproblem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently with littlesupervision. Demonstrated abilities to ability to work independently withlittle supervision and to complete delegated or assigned work quickly,efficiently as an individual or as part of a team.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, bothorally and in writing.

    Remuneration:

    $49.98 per hour.

    Hours of Work:

    40 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening andweekend work may be required.
