What can I expect to do in this role?


In this role, you will:

- coordinate a threat-based approach to emergency management program delivery focused on intelligence assessment
- help protect the health, life and safety of Ontario residents from the impacts of actual or potential emergency situations
- help to secure Ministry assets, facilities and information from disasters and emergencies
- provide advice to recover from any losses to critical infrastructure, assets and information, so critical Ministry services are provided during and after an emergency

How do I qualify?


Mandatory:


  • You are able to obtain provincial security clearances; federal security clearances may be required for certain projects or incidents.
  • You may be required to wear a uniform to perform some duties and may be required to wear and use protective equipment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • You are willing to work irregular and extended hours particularly during emergencies and be oncall on a regular basis, often on short notice.
  • You are able to travel within Ontario and occasionally to other provinces, territories and the USA.

Analytical skills:


  • You have analytical and problemsolving skills to perform accurate risk assessments and develop strategies/criteria for generating and evaluating reliable and valid data.
  • You have knowledge of intelligence, risk management, strategic planning and emergency management principles.
  • You are knowledgeable about project management principles to plan, manage/coordinate and conduct large scale research projects.

Technical expertise:


  • You have demonstrated knowledge of the trends, principles, practices, and methodologies of intelligencebased Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), to be able to develop analyses and assessments of potential, developing and ongoing emergency situations, and to provide relevant input into plans and procedures to support the response.
  • You possess knowledge of the preparation and handling of intelligence products like assessments, analyses, forecasts, etc. to provide advice and analysis about developing and actual emergency situations.
  • You have knowledge of emergencyrelated legislation, including the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and its regulations, etc.

Communication and interpersonal skills:


  • You possess strong communication skills to effectively communicate and provide consultation on research findings, and to describe the objectives of research and evaluation projects.
  • You possess written communication skills to write correspondence and research reports, develop presentations and journal findings.
  • You have the ability to deliver a variety of training products and presentations.

Computer proficiency:


  • You have the ability to use computers for modelling and data management, specifically for intelligence research
  • You are proficient with common office productivity software to produce research presentations, correspondence and reports.
