PURPOSE:

Wa-Say Healing Centre Inc.

invites applicants for a Contract Position until March 31, 2024 as Resolution Health Support Worker (RHSW) to provide support services to Indian Residential Schools (IRS) Survivors and their familes involves in the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement (IRSSA), specifically the IRS Resoulution Health Support Program (IRS RHSP) and the Indian Day Schools (IDS) Class Action Settlement with a commitment to working in the field of emotional support, healing and wellness.


ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • To ensure eligible IRS and IDS Survivors and their family members have access to the appropriate level of emotional suport.
  • To also provide support to Indian Day School (IDS) Survivors and their family members.
  • To ensure eligible IRS and IDS Survivors and their family members can safely address a broad spectrum of emotional support related to the effects of the IRS experience.
  • To listen, enlighten and work as an equal with people with no judgement to bring balance back to the people.
  • To refer other RHSWs, Cultural Support Providers/Traditional Helpers/Elders ad needed for further emotional and cultural support.
  • Facilitate group support if requested
  • To develop emotional healing plans for IRS and IDS Survivors and their families as needed.
  • To maintain and monitor progress of support services provided
  • To collect and prepare statistical information for monthly and quarterly activity reports, both written and verbal.
  • Identify IRS and IDS Survivors support needs to refer to the IRSRHSP as well as existing community services and supports.
  • Communicate with the Executive Director
  • Attend workshops/confrences and events as requested
  • Respond to calls from all Stakeholders involved in the IRSSA and the IRSRHSP.
  • To be knowledgeable and also provide support to Sixties Scoop Survivors as requested.
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Willing to attend and participate in cultural ceremonies
  • Open to carrying out other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be double vaccinated and open to weekly Rapid Covid Testing.
  • Knowledge of the IDS Class Action settlement and the Application process.
  • To be humble, honest, patient, committed, respectful, punctual and openminded to provide guildance, prayers, leadership as requested while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • To possess personal ethics, spiritual views, live a healthy lifestyle and have a sense of community to provide accurate guidance and support by developing trusting relationships.
  • Experience working with IRS, IDS Survivors and their family.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Cultural and Spiritual Traditions is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba Indigenous communities and affiliated organizations.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural and spiritual traditions is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Health Canada programs and services for Indigenous people is an asset.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to small and large groups.
  • Be a selfstarter and can work independently.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to speak/understand an Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Knowledge on how to use a computer and computer software i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Publisher.
  • Have good assessment skills.
  • Be drug and alcohol free.
  • Free to travel as needed.
