    This is an opportunity to join a growing Operational Business Intelligence team; a group of exceedingly savvy and intellectually curious professionals who are transforming business intelligence at Sun Life Financial (SLF) Canada. We are currently looking for a Data Engineer who has a passion for turning data into actionable insight to drive business decisions. This position works primarily with our Data and Analytics team to understand and analyze source systems and their associated data, develop data pipelines and manage the flow of data between systems.

    What will you do?

    As a data engineer,

  • You will be involved in Design, development and implementation of highly scalable data capture and transformation processes.
  • You will create effective ETLs/ELTs to move large volumes of data from various operational systems to dimensional data models for analytics consumption.
  • You will be expected to ensure all automated processes preserve data integrity by managing the alignment of data availability and integration processes.
  • You will be working with a team of talented data engineers and contribute to our data products.
  • You will work in an agile environment and will actively participate in all the sprint related activities including the demo models.
  • What do you need to succeed?

  • 1 to 3 years of building data pipelines using an ETL tool like SSIS.
  • 1 to 3 years of Hands-on experience with Relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)
  • Proficient in SQL (Structured Query Language).
  • Good understanding of Enterprise Scheduler (AutoSys, etc.).
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting issues and optimize server performance.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Design Thinking methodologies and techniques.
  • Strong Communication Skills.
  • Knowledge of Insurance or Financial Services industry.
  • Unique Requirements

    The candidate selected for this role is required to have special clearance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. To see if you are eligible for this clearance, please review the section 201 on the Federal Government site () ​

    Must be able to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)
