Job Summary

The position will be primarily based at the David Strangway Building at the Point Grey Campus in Vancouver.

ExL welcomes thousands of learners from all over the world annually, and supports UBC faculties to create and deliver programming that meets the career and personal needs of UBC communities while strengthening UBC s contribution to society, industry, and government.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Extended Learning. The Student Recruitment Specialist also works closely with Program, Academic Services, and Marketing teams on business and program opportunities.

Work Performed

  • The position serves enterprise partners including professional organizations, employers, and business leaders, and requires indepth knowledge of program content, education technology, and of the competitive environment within industry in Canada and abroad. Responsibilities will be across various program categories and industries, but with special emphasis on the areas of technology and the programs of the Centre for Equitable Systems Design.
  • Generates, manages, nurtures and converts prospective employer/industry relationships and student leads.
  • Participates in industry organizations for relevant industries. Prepares and delivers effective presentations to groups large and small. Plans, manages, and presents at recruitment events, both in person and online, to groups, large and small, locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Advises employers, industry groups and others on UBC ExL program opportunities that meet their organizational needs. Exercises crosscultural sensitivity and intercultural skills.
  • Applies indepth knowledge and understanding of requirements and admissions policies, as well as knowledge of foreign credentials, international documentation and different countries' educational systems, in responding appropriately to inquiries, with tact, cultural sensitivity and discretion.
  • Develops, compiles, documents, and applies indepth knowledge and understanding of growing and emerging job requirements. Works closely with Program Directors to inform program development to meet these needs.
  • Conducts appropriate followup with contacts made with professional organizations, employers and business leaders. Evaluates the outcomes of various recruiting activities, preparing reports for the cross functional program team and recommends changes where necessary.
  • Effectively uses data systems to manage all student engagement, ensuring the data is uptodate and managed in a way to maximize the relationships with potential partners. Ensure that all data is integrated with other marketing tools to capture and followup with leads generated from all channels.
  • Develops, plans, implements and evaluates employer sales and recruitment strategy and corresponding activities for ExL programs in line with the unit's strategy and key performance indicators. Develops a budget with the necessary resources to support implementation. Ensures that the strategy and budget receives the necessary approvals.
  • Works with the marketing team to develop sales collateral for use in a variety of channels, to promote events, encourage connections and partnerships and increase brand awareness.
  • Monitors trends in key industries and makes recommendations to ExL leadership regarding new strategies, initiatives and tactics to increase employer partnerships and drive student enrolments.
  • Identifies partnership opportunities, cultivates and sustains relationships with Industry Advisory Boards, Employers Professional & Industry Associations, Universities, and government.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of ExL's mission and mandate, program offerings and services, UBC brand
  • Adheres to university policies, particularly those governing Freedom of Information and Privacy Laws in Canada, and maintains confidentiality of knowledge and market intelligence as an employee of the University.
  • Undertakes other recruitment, advising and program development activities as required, in keeping with the terms of the position. May represent the unit on crossunit projects or on other University committees as assigned.
  • Carries out other duties as required in keeping with level of the position.
