    The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves.     The Opportunity

    Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Safety & Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

    Safety & Emergency Preparedness Coordinator

    Location

    Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

    Summary

    Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Safety & Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is responsible for providing safety support to the site, leading the emergency response and preparedness program, supports the implementation of the High Potential Risk Control Strategy, and supports the facilitation of various training functions.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the site emergency response and emergency preparedness programs,
  • Supports the development and implementation of the High Potential Risk Control Strategy,
  • Maintaining compliance and preventative maintenance requirements for all emergency response and emergency preparedness equipment,
  • Identify site-specific risks, analyze, and develop action plans that include best practices, procedures to mitigate risk and ensure minimum standards are attained,
  • Leading and coordinating mine rescue teams during emergency response operations as required,
  • Planning and conducting emergency response team training sessions,
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of safety and emergency management files, including compliance to emergency response team shift coverage,
  • Prepare reports (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual) in a timely and efficient manner,
  • Maintain strong communications with departments to ensure needs are being met in a timely manner,
  • Conduct safety audits as it relates to safety and emergency preparedness,
  • Conduct site safety orientation for new employees and contractors,
  • Facilitates training on various programs such as Lockout, Confined Space, Mine Rescue, Fall Protection and Active Mine Entry,
  • Complete Risk Assessments, as required,
  • Develop and/or review health & safety procedures as required,
  • Participate in change management initiatives as required,
  • Participate in strategic business planning for the Health & Safety Department,
  • Conduct and/or participate in incident investigations,
  • Participate in the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee meetings as required,
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in safety and minimum 1 year in leading an emergency management program (equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered),
  • Post-secondary education in health and safety and/or emergency management is considered an asset,
  • OFA Level 3 certification,
  • Active B.C. or Yukon Mine Rescue Certification and Mine Rescue Instructor (equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered),
  • Solid understanding of applicable Health & Safety regulations,
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders,
  • Experience in the mining industry is preferred,
  • Proficient user of Computer Applications, including Word, and Excel,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver's license and have access to personal transportation.
  • Required Skills

  • Knowledge of health & safety principles and practices,
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management,
  • Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees,
  • Practices safe work behaviors and supports the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture,
  • Proven ability to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, multi-tasking work environment,
  • Detail and result-oriented with the ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines,
  • Adept to work efficiently and with minimal supervision,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members,
  • Excellent time and project management skills,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
  • Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Regular exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Work involves performing duties in a combination of environments.
  • Salary Range

    $80K - $90K / annum.
