    Position Summary
    The Cancer Clinical Research Unit has a mandate to lead and promote clinical research within the PMH Cancer Program through standardization of processes and encouraging a culture of responsibility and accountability in clinical trials. The Financial Analyst 2 will be a key support to the development of clinical trial site budgets for both external sponsored and internally sponsored clinical trials. This Financial Analyst position requires an action-oriented individual, with strong technical skills, good business acumen, and demonstrated problem solving capabilities. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work with individuals from other areas (hospital service departments, research managers, to achieve objectives combined with the willingness to learn. The analyst will be trained to read clinical trial protocols, and interpret the schedule of events into costing tables to develop study budgets. The analyst will have strong communication skills, with the ability to negotiate in good faith with sponsors, whilst ensuring financial solvency of trials. A keen eye for detail, initiative, and the ability to follow up on items or determine appropriate next steps for timely resolution are key skillsets.

    Duties
    Working under the direction of the CCRU Finance Manager, the Financial Analyst II will conduct key tasks including

  • Evaluates research protocols to assess resource needs for research procedures, clinical research staff time, investigator time, and costs from ancillary departments.
  • Develops and negotiates initial and amended budgets for clinical trials
  • Identifies and/or researches whether research procedures in the protocol are standard-of-care or research-related costs in order to correctly classify expenses.
  • Produces budget amendment as required.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s) and represents the company with external constituents
  • Other tasks as assigned and ad-hoc requests, which may include, but are not limited to, developing accounting system for clinical trials, contributing to business cases for program expansion/consolidation etc., or participating on special committees
  • Qualifications

  • University degree in Business Administration or equivalent program, required
  • Working towards completion of a professional accounting program (, CPA), or relevant combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, and or research funding an asset
  • Expert knowledge of Excel; strong knowledge of Access and PowerPoint
  • 3 years' relevant experience
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Experience with financial modeling, financial and cost accounting and with analyzing and interpreting large quantities of financial and statistical data; systems thinker
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
