    About this opportunity:

    The Staff Process Safety Engineer position will provide expert interpretation, analysis, and guidance in process safety engineering and the operations integrity management system. The position leads programs from start to finish and demonstrates resource strengths to deliver impactful risk management approaches. The role requires sophisticated skills in various technical safety engineering aspects. The ideal candidate will thrive in crafting methods and solutions to improve Process Safety and will be the "go-to" process safety expert for multiple subject areas.

    What you'll do:

    • Providing expert process safety and technical expertise through anticipating business entity needs, conducting engineering studies and interpreting results to provide direction and guidance.
    • Understanding impact of changes and providing solutions for implementation and sustainment of the operations integrity management system programs; integrating perspectives to optimize solutions.
    • Individually leading or driving completion of multiple process safety reviews including facility siting, HAZID, HAZOP, PHA, Bow-ties, qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, interpretations for regulators, and reports for internal audiences.
    • Leading investigations involving significant process safety events, providing recommendations, and communicating insights.
    • Serving as the company subject matter expert for one or more key process safety programs such as management of change, fire and gas protection, process safety management assurance, barrier health systems, PHA & Bow-tie analysis, etc.
    • Familiarity with process simulation modelling and expertise in consequence analysis software.
    • Providing authoritative interpretation and support for process safety-related company standards, and knowledgeable guidance for relevant industry standards e.g. CSA/ISO, API, and regulatory requirements.
    • Forming strong collaborative work groups and leading programs to improve process safety performance.
    • Participate in process safety assurance program, audits or surveys.

    Who you are:

    • Expert in applicable codes, standards, and regulations for the process safety discipline.
    • Leadership of multiple safety evaluations and proficient in use of process safety information, data historians, incident databases, computerized maintenance management systems etc.
    • Experienced, advanced modeler using PHAST, practiced in fire and gas software, exSilentia, PHA Pro etc.,
    • Experienced in project safety engineering leadership for major projects.
    • Possessing strong working knowledge of loss prevention and integrity programs.
    • Proficient in influencing and improving culture of hazard recognition and risk management.
    • Adept at clear and concise communications.
    • BSc. Engineering, Chemical (preferred)
    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered for practice in Alberta
    • Certified Functional Safety Engineer (CFSE) (preferred)
    • 15 years process safety engineering experience with refined hazard identification and risk assessment skills
    • Owner operator experience within the oil and gas industry is advantageous
