Company Description
John Ross & Sons Ltd. is a fourth generation, family owned, scrap metal recycler.

The company is the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada and has been in operation for over 70 years, primarily in Halifax.

John Ross & Sons Ltd. specializes in purchasing and processing all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.


Position Description
We are seeking a highly self-motivated individual with the ability to multitask and manage a fast paced office environment. The individual must possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.


Responsibilities
Reporting to the Office Manager, the primary responsibilities are to ensure all aspects of office administration are managed effectively and efficiently including:

  • Cash management: bank orders, bank transfers, oversight of safe and cash related items
  • Managing front counter staff and ensuring high customer service levels
  • Assist with hiring, training and onboarding of new employees
  • Purchasing, monitoring and tracking inventory
  • Ensure office procedures are followed and create efficiencies where needed
  • Liaising with external providers
  • Forward thinker with the ability to problem solve and fix payouts/situations on the spot

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior administrative or office management role.
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written as well as computer proficiency.
  • Approachable, the "go to" person

Hours of Operation
The hours for this role are Monday to Friday, 8am-5:30pm, and every third Saturday 8am-12:30pm.

John Ross & Sons Ltd. has a competitive compensation package that includes, group benefits and a competitive salary based on experience.
