About Potash


The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.


BHP's CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability.

As the largest investment in Saskatchewan's history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026.

Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages.


Purpose


The Supervisor Jansen Rail Operations will be responsible for Jansen's railyard operations, private railcar fleet, and providing assurance for Jansen's rail operations contractor.

This role will be responsible for on boarding the contractor and overseeing the development and execution of the site rail operations readiness plan and the transition to operations.

The role will provide guidance to the contractor on BHP ways of working to ensure a safe and efficient railyard operation and will manage the Jansen railcar fleet and rail infrastructure agreements.


About the Role
In this role, you will

  • Oversee and provide assurance for the development and execution of the Jansen rail operations operational readiness plan and develop and implement BHPs rail operations requirements to ensure the asset is ready for day 1 of operations.
  • Responsible for Jansen's rail operations, its contractors, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of the railyard including the arrival and departure of Class I railways.
  • Supervise the maintenance planning and execution of the Jansen rail car fleet, including maintenance contracts.
  • Liaise with the Class I railways for any on and offsite requirements.
  • Work with all relevant teams and stakeholders to throughout the operational readiness phase and ensure alignment and readiness for Jansen operations.
  • Provide operational input and assurance for the Jansen Stage 2 railyard design.
  • Participate in the external stakeholder relationship management program for key rail operations parties.
  • Ensure material risk and asset integrity tasks are correctly flagged, activated, and managed in the BHP risk management system.

Work Location
Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP. Travel to the Jansen mine will be required.

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required.

About You

  • Related extensive experience in Rail operations management, contract and contractor management.
  • Relevant experience in the development and execution of railcar maintenance strategies.
  • Experience in managing external and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing budgets, cost control and continuous improvement.
  • Leading and engaging people and creating an environment of trust and collaboration among multi
- disciplinary teams.

  • Leading development of key stakeholder and contractor relationships
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and emerging issues.
  • Responsive to team needs with ability to adjust based on feedback.
  • Anticipate and resolve potential conflicts within and across teams.
  • Understand the capabilities of each team and acts to develop proficiency.
  • Project management and facilitation experience to deliver results on time and on budget.
  • Experience with establishing programs from the ground up by following accepted industry standards for problem solving and management expertise.
