Communications Manager
SeedChange is seeking a Communications Manager to develop, manage and oversee all aspects of SeedChange's communications, including digital content, print collateral, and occasional media presence and community events.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in helping the organization achieve its plans for growth and advance the food and seed sovereignty mission.
Having previous experience working in a non-profit organization is a huge plus.Context
SeedChange, formerly USC Canada, is a non-profit founded in 1945 and rooted in the notions of human dignity and equality.
With the support of our donors, we partner with like-minded non-profits in 9 countries around the world, including Canada, to support up to 35,000 family farmers per year.

If you join SeedChange in this position, you will be helping us raise awareness about the need to support small-scale farmers so they can grow a better world. You will also be helping us amplify farmers' voices so that Canadians understand the challenges they face, and see the potential of farmer-led solutions to global injustice, food insecurity and climate change. Lastly, you'll be using your marketing and community mobilization skills to help us grow momentum for food sovereignty, as a path towards a more just, healthy and sustainable world.
Experience
Mandate of the Communications Manager
You will support the development, and lead the execution of all communications for SeedChange includin
g:
- Support the development of the communications strategy and fundraising campaigns
- Design, create, write and deliver communications tailored to SeedChange's target audience through website, blog, social media, and newsletters
- Ensure brand consistency throughout all communication channels
- Design social media content, graphics and various document layouts
- Ensure delivery of dynamic content and compelling stories of SeedChange's work and its impact, which can include farmers stories, community impact stories, program results and advocacy campaigns.
- Establish internal communications processes to ensure everyone is in the loop and updated on the status of each project/initiative.
- Create and maintain connections and work with different internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute communication strategies.
- Liaise with other departments to identify communications support needs and triage requests.
- Liaise with external advisors and contractors on specific campaign and communications elements (e
g:
graphic designer, website and digital ad agencies, PR consultant).
- Support Executive Director and Senior Management Team with crisis communications when necessary.
Experience/qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or equivalent (ESSENTIAL)
- Minimum 5 years of working experience in Communications and/or Marketing (ESSENTIAL)
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization (ASSET)
- Demonstrated results in implementing marketing and communications strategic plans and expressing complex information in accessible and engaging ways (ESSENTIAL)
- Experience designing and implementing social media campaigns and managing social media accounts (ESSENTIAL)
- Experience growing an online audience through organic and/or paid reach (ESSENTIAL)
- Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Youtube) (ESSENTIAL)
- Experience managing content on a Wordpress website, or other related platforms (e.g. Squarespace) (ESSENTIAL)
- Strong attention to detail and proven project management skills
- Proficiency with Google Suite (ESSENTIAL)
- Basic design experience to create social media content, graphics and lay out documents according to predefined brand elements using Canva, InDesign, Illustrator and/or Photoshop (ASSET)
- Experience evaluating and analyzing results of communications campaigns using reporting and analytical tools (e.g. Google Analytics) (ASSET)
- Experience in media relations (ASSET)
- Experience drafting and/or editing press releases (ASSET)
- Other activities and tasks may be required within the scope of the role.
- Awareness of antiracism and antioppression, and strong personal commitment to decolonization (ESSENTIAL)
- General awareness of the diversity of challenges, values, and needs of farming communities and farming organizations in Canada (ASSET)
- Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills (ESSENTIAL)
