Hybrid role based out of the corporate office in North York, ON. 2-3 days/week on-site.
The
Payroll Manager with Lifemark will focus on payroll, benefits administration and delivery, the organization of new hires into the appropriate systems, ensuring adherence with government & regulatory requirements and ensuring that payroll operates in compliance with internal/external audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Lead the payroll function, with a team of 11 staff, for a growing midsize company with over 5,000 employees and contractors
- Establish governance and drive strategic direction of the payroll department
- Provide a clear vision of the payroll department, anticipate future needs accurately, and implement plans of action to manage change
- Prepare payroll tax forms and yearend summaries, including T4 and T4A preparation
- Develop priorities and strategies that optimize time, and add value to the business in various functions (Finance, HR, Operations, IT, etc.)
- Hire, train, motivate and evaluate payroll team members to ensure team has the knowledge necessary for their role
- Oversee the reconciliation and remittances for Workers Compensation, Benefit Invoices, Garnishments, etc.
- Liaise with the operations and HR teams in regards to any payroll inquiries and/or discrepancies
- Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including semimonthly, monthly, quarterly and yearend reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)
- Liaise with Finance to maintain GL mappings; ensure that all payroll amounts are accounted for correctly using accrual based accounting; compile/review journal entries for payroll adjustments
- Must be prepared to roll up sleeves and immerse into the details as necessary
- Operational Management & Improvement
- Lead a culture within the payroll team of providing excellent customer service to employees while adhering to company policies, procedures and established guidelines
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years' of handson, progressive payroll experience with multiple provinces and multiple pay types (hourly, salaried, and fee for service)
- 2+ years' experience in a supervisor/manager role
- Excellent working knowledge of Labour Standards and Canadian Payroll Legislation
- Understanding of business finance & accounting
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
- Excellent familiarity with ADP payroll system
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Exposure to Mergers and Acquisitions is a strong asset
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Outlook
- Problem solving and prioritization skills
- Ability to multitask while ensuring accuracy and effectiveness
- Must possess a high degree of attention to detail, excellent time management, & organizational skills
