Office Assistant


Salary:
Category 6/ $19.13- $23.39 per hour

Overall Accountability

The Office Assistant provides clerical and administrative support to administration, personnel, parents, students and members of the public.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Responds to requests for information from staff, students, parents and members of the public
  • Schedules meetings and handles business and administrative activities
  • Generates reports, correspondence and newsletters
  • Transcribes material from handwritten notes or electronic dictation; edits or formats documents for use with specialized software
  • Creates, photocopies and distributes materials
  • Orders and maintains office supplies
  • Maintains and updates information databases, lists, files, records, etc.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Minimum three (3) to six (6) months' related experience
  • Secretarial certificate/diploma preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of student information systems and electronic report cards for schoolbased positions preferred

Overall Accountability

The Education Assistant - PUF works in the kindergarten classroom assisting students with diverse learning needs. This includes those who have severe social, emotional and communication needs.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Assists students individually and in small groups to achieve curriculum programming
  • Assists with testing and records results
  • Provides general supervision of students during out of class time
  • Assists in planning and supervising field trips
  • Photocopying, typing, computer data entry, phoning, bulletin boards, preparing charts and teaching materials
  • Contributes to class planning activities, behaviour and progress reviews
  • Assists with the delivery of Learner Support Plans
  • Assists students during school celebrations, liturgical events, services and attendance at Mass at local parishes

  • May require any of the following depending upon assignment:
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates

  • Restrictive intervention practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
