Your Opportunity:


Under the supervision of the Manager, Calgary Eating Disorder Program, and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Family Counsellor will provide assessment, treatment/case management to clients who are dealing with an eating disorder and their families.

Primary modalities of treatment include family and group therapy.

The Family Counsellor - Eating Disorder Program position is primarily based at FMC (inpatient treatment services), however, supports treatment services at RRDTC (outpatient services) and ACH (day treatment services) as required.

Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team and as such:
Maintains current knowledge in the field of eating disorders, practices, standards and trends. Participates in both clinical and administrative team meetings. Maintains clinical records and completes workload measurement statistics in a timely and efficient manner. Shares information with team members as appropriate. Assesses the effectiveness of intervention strategies and techniques and recommends changes when necessary. Utilizes standardized tests and measures to supplement clinical interviewing as required.

Carries an advanced clinical caseload and as such offers treatment in the form of individual, family, group therapy, and meal support therapy.

Participates in the development and implementation of psycho-educational and therapeutic groups for clients and families coping with an eating disorder.

This position works Monday to Friday.

Historically the role worked a mix of day and evening shifts:

Monday & Tuesday (07:30-15:45), Wednesday & Thursday (11:15-19:30), Friday (08:30-16:45); however, the position is currently working straight days and may be adjusted back if needed.

The position is working on PCU 32 where there are six dedicated beds, however, eventually the program will move into a 10-bed inpatient unit in 2025.


Description:
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families.

You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community.

You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: Master's degree in Psychology. Master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy. Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Registration with ACSW or CAP.

Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience and excellence in family, group, and individual therapy in a mental health/psychiatric setting; preferably with adolescents and young adults coping with an eating disorder.

Experience working collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Experience in family therapy and family assessment. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Creative, flexible, collaborative systems thinker. Knowledge about evaluation strategies and outcome research. Strong computer skills. Strong family therapy skills essential.


Preferred Qualifications:

Strong Family & Group Therapy Skills. Extensive experience working within mental health. Familiar with Connect Care.
